Seriously though the casual game world is massive now. Simple ideas done well sell amazingly. Think what element is fun in a platformer or action rpg and focus on just that aspect, expand it into a game with multiple levels, unlocks, etc..
When authors want to get ideas for their novels (be it fiction or non-fiction), they dont sit at home idle. 2 things they do. 1) They go out and observe everything around them. People, behaviors, animals, transport etc etc. 2) They read alot...helluva lot so they can learn from other authors, mistakes to omit, ideas, concepts etc etc.
Film makers do the same...1) They watch and study 100s of movies 2) Observe things around them and in their daily life...
Thats all creativity is about...observing, learning and pieceing them together to convey your ideas visually
Similarly, if you want ideas for games, 3 things u could possibly do,
1) Watch game shows, go out and see game events...e.g. skateboarding, wakeboarding, competitions for various sports, events
2) Play others' games...lots of it...you will notice different styles of game making, mistakes developers make, concepts. You will see how you can improve those games...think how you can make them better.
3) Another way and very straightforward: Go through the demos posted by the veterans like firemaplegames, tshirtbooth, codemonkey and many others. Each demo teaches you different things the GS engine can do. And then its all about permutation...mixing and matching each demo and putting them together. Can you use firemaplegame's flashlight demo and convert into a gun barrel sequence like James Bond start scene? Thats an idea I got when I looked at it.
