I'm pretty sure this is bad

Okay, So I wanted the main theme for an iPhone app made by GameSalad, so here's what I did.

Magic

EDIT: I took out the actual process, my bad for putting it up in the first place. But seriously, what the butt?

Shouldn't exported versions of a GS file be a little more secure than that?

Thans for telling everyone. Now Duck Hunt Kid and mates can make "unofficial" versions of all of our games ;)

    Were screwed!
Oh wait somebody already hacked my Dice app weeks ago. Guess more sites could add it to the list.

Can you explain what was deleted? What's this about?
  • AfterBurnettAfterBurnett Member Posts: 3,474
Don't worry... it doesn't work. All images are invisible/corrupt. Pretty much impossible to tell what's going on inside the files.
  • ToastKittenToastKitten Member Posts: 360
It's true that the images are corrupted, but you could pretty much go into the actual game file and see what's going on in the text files.

AKA you can see the code for someone's game :O

It's not JUST the images that are CORRUPTED! Argh.
(Always keep making puns, have a sense of humor.)

Does this mean it's not safe to upload your work as a "web game"?

Or even worse than that - is somebody "dissasembling" them or whatever
    from the iPhone point?

I don't know whether you are referring to an app you purchased or and online GS game but

@FranzKeller, online GS games are VERY easy to get a hold of the gameproj file or whatever it is called :/

I have read this elsewhere on the forums.

And the more people who post this fact, the more people will steal it, you know? ;-)

But what about published games on the app store?

Ha ha, but before I need worry about that, I must of course make a top selling game. ;-)

Who is this duck kid you speak of?

@franzkeller Well the secret is to get a pro membership, and then no one will know about your game being on the top of the app store because you can change the splash screen. Also even without the splash screen most people would never have the chance of buying your game unless you tell people here in the forums :D

@StusApps I would recommend deleting what you said above... People will take advantage of what you just said above if they don't already know about it yet.

    Thanks

My actual question is - are EXPORTED GS games in .app form safe from hacking?
    (at least low level hacking.)

Actually, this forum is a relatively small userbase focused on videogame CREATION -
the places I'll focus promotion are electronic music creation and game PLAYING forums.
The other secret is to get it mentioned on widely read blogs and such.

I have no delusions of grandeur, Radarhead is a simple fun app, for $1
But 300 people have watched my preview video on YouTube, so far, not bad.

(I do have one video with 80,000 views now, so things are picking up!)

I can't currently afford $2000 for a pro membership, that's more than Adobe Suite or Maya*!
    - I think they'd sell a LOT more of them at $300-500.

*edited - I just noticed Maya now goes for $3000-5
    unbelievable.

I have no idea how to do it but someone earlier in this post explained how they were able to unlock a popular GS made game that they bought from the app store. They took the app from iTunes and did something to make it so they could crack it (the step by step was posted and then edited and deleted a few minutes later - it sounded pretty easy to do). So yeah, apparently it is very unsecured and is a big issue.

Personally I'd rather just build it myself tan have to deal with someone elses style of rules and attributes and instances that you're unaware of which will just screw you when it comes time to test and submit. It's like fixing a broken puzzle and not knowing if pieces are missing
