How to make a Mario-style world map to connect to levels

So, I want a Mario-style world map that links to individual levels by clicking on them, any good tutorials out there?

    Can you be a little more specific? Are we talking Super Mario Bros. or something different? Do you want something where the player clicks/taps on an area of the screen and it switches scenes? Is there more to it than that?
