Help (Image bringing background with it!!)

Hello folks

Am after a little help/point in the right direction.

I recently (6 weeks ago) got myself a macbook with the intention of creating iphone applications, well I am in the process of learning objective C and its going well, however whilst browsing the net I came across this fine site and thought to myself why make life more difficult and just use gamesalad to create the games for the iphone.

Well to cut a long story short I have been playing about/making myself familiar with GS and have just one little tiny problem:

When I painstakingly (2 hours!!!!) create images to use in my games (i.e a character) using programs such as inkscape and gimp, I save them to my desktop as .png files and when I use them in GS they bring the whole background with them.

Is there any way at all/any program I can use to create images without brining the entire background with me??

Any help is much appreciated

Joe

You need to turn off the visibility of the layers in inkscape or gimp before you save the .png file. There is usually a little eye icon on each layer to toggle the visibility.

You should also crop the size as tight as possible to the image.

If you can use Photoshop. Create new file and check transparent background.
When done export as png file.
    Thats it.

in gimp when you create a new file under advanced options choose transparency as your background fill color.
