'Pitch' NOT A Pitch Controller?

I was disappointed and surprised to find out that the 'Pitch' attribute, seen under the 'Play Sound' behavior, does NOT act as a pitch changer; instead of modulating the pitch of the sound being played (and retaining the tempo), this attribute also modifies the playback speed. Is it possible to change the pitch of a sound without also making it slower or faster?
