Hi all, no one will remember me here but I’ve been a member for 5ish years lurking in the shadows etc, I’ve decided to come back to GS for MAC to finish up some games I was working on and have a few questions, hopefully some kind folk could help with?

The community used to be awesome around here back in the day and I see a few names are still around!

Questions:

1: Can I successfully run GS on a 2012 Mac book pro 9.2 i5 with 4 gig ram, “my games arnt very demanding” my 2011 i7 Mac book pro is broke but that is what I used to use and 2012 i5 is around £350 which is what I can afford.

2: Can this run the latest Xcode and OSX etc required by GS and Apple for signing games etc

3: Who’s still here from 2014 -16? this place looks really empty community wise :/ luckily I’ve done a lot of learning with GS back in the day so I can help with new people to pick up the community once again :)

4: what Mac are you running for GS, my 2011 Mac book pro used to crash every hour but that was due to GS, is it any better now days

Thanks for your time guys :)

Jay

Welcome back! I'm sure there's several around here who still remember the 'old members', including me. ;)

    1. I would think your Mac should be able to run Creator. It may be slow, but I was running GS on a 2012 Macbook Pro a while back.
    2. I actually have no idea. A quick google would probably help answer that question.
    3. I'm from early 2011. ;)
    4. 2018 Macbook Pro for me.

Good to see you around again, and best of luck as you continue to develop your games!

Cheers mate, I’ve learnt Unity since but determined to finish a few GS games I have as all the mechanics are in place so just working on art, thanks again for the advice and see you around the forums

    1. Yeah, you should be able to run GS on that, but the performance will be a bit of a PITA.
    2. No. Won't run the latest, as that requires Mojave. A Mac that old will max out at High Sierra. It should be possible to sign apps with Xcode 9, though.
    3. I'm still kinda here, now and then, but not really active at all, and not using GS anymore.
    4. Yes, GS should run better nowadays than in the crash-prone days, but other problems still remain unaddressed.

    Saying that, though:

How complicated are your games? Might it be worth it to port them to Unity?

It will make them more future-proof, TBH. And Unity is introducing visual coding at some point this year, so it might be quite straightforward as well.
