Taking the leap and sharing my Game idea in its early stages. 'Oil Bots'

Looking for GameSalad camaraderie to come up with the gameplay idea to kick ass on the app store.

Ok, so I have the basic concept, you control a submarine, in the sea, with oil rigs and leaking oil. (I have done the drawings for the final sub design).

Thinking 70's retro posters as a design style.

Now I've been thinking it over for about 3 weeks and still can't nail the gameplay idea.

Ideas so far (not sure how to tie any of them together to make the perfect game):
- You control robot sub, drive it down, it welds up pipes and stops leaks.
- You have to fix leaks before the oil rigs explode.
- You have limited fuel
- You have limited oxygen
- Perhaps add obstacles in the middle of the ocean, (big fish, rapids, other submarines).
- Flight control style game, you tell bots where to go to fix leaks.
- Ways to score points????

Or scrap the oil idea, and have it so your a sub that has to hunt shoals of fish, you fire out a bit net to catch fish.

The final game will have all sorts of polish, the menu screen could be like the inside of the sub.

Controls:
Either use accelerometer and tilt controls or joystick styled like real sub controls. Perhaps tilt controls and touch to aim lights.

- Open to any ideas: changing the name, scale of sub, add guns, net, harpoon. In the iphone test build I was doing I had it so the camera panned with sub.

Not sure whether it should be one level and it gets harder and harder as it goes (doodle jump style) or lots of levels 'Angry Bird' style.

Thanks in advance for any ideas... the more detail the better. But simple quick posts will be lovely too...

Those all look good. You could have more leaks springing up.
You could have to ferry parts from the surface, and find you have the wrong parts sometimes.

what if you shove BP executives into the pipe to stop the leak?

OK, now that I've actually thought about it while reheating some mac n cheese for the kids I have an idea. What if the object of the game is to use a sub to push a containment dome over the gushing oil well. You could have a downward accel but the angle could change randomly between 250 and 290 so that it is not going straight down. There could be all kids of things that collide with the containment dome and knock it off track. You would use the sub to try and keep it on track. The objective would be met when the containment dome collides with the well and has a rotation that is within an acceptable range. If the rotation is outside of that range the objective is not completed. There could also be non moving objects in the way which would make it a bit of a physics puzzle. You could make time an issue as well.

    just a thought.

@SciTunes - Thanks for the idea, I like it.

Maybe I will try and break down the whole BP fiasco into 10 levels. Which you reinact through the eyes of the sub.

    Cheers...
