Looking for Advice on Optimizing Game Performance in GameSalad

Hi everyone,

I’ve been working on a 2D platformer game in GameSalad and have run into some performance issues as I add more levels and features. I wanted to reach out to this community to get some advice on optimizing my game for smoother gameplay across different devices.

Here are some specifics about my project:

  • The game includes several sprite animations, parallax scrolling, and physics-based interactions.
  • Levels are designed with a mix of static and dynamic actors, and I use several timers and rules to trigger events.
  • Testing on older devices shows noticeable lag, especially during scenes with many interactive elements.

I’ve already tried a few optimization techniques, such as:

  • Reducing the resolution of sprite images.
  • Consolidating some rules and behaviors to minimize the number of active calculations.
  • Using “recycle actors” where possible instead of spawning and destroying them.

Despite these efforts, the performance gains have been limited. I’m curious to know what other strategies I could implement to further optimize my game. For example:

  • Are there best practices for managing large scenes or keeping memory usage low?
  • How can I better utilize tables or other GameSalad features to streamline processes?
  • Are there specific plugins, tools, or debugging tips that might help identify the performance bottlenecks?

Any guidance, tips, or resources would be greatly appreciated! If there’s additional information about my setup that would be helpful to share, let me know.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards

@evansdavis090 How's it going? Those strategies you mentioned are great! if you can share the project link I can take a look at it for you and suggest more things you can do. Send it into support (the blue chat sign on the bottom of the GameSalad webpage) and I'll take a look tomorrow.
