Would you pay per appstore build?

Would any of you pay $50 for each appstore build if it could include all the Pro features?

If I made 10 games in a year Gendai would only get $500.

But, it is the updates where I think Gendai would start to make money. I would probably update each of those original 10 at least two times over the year, especially if they continued to add new features. So they would get another $1000 from my updates.

In year two I might make 10 new games, but I also might update all of them (year one and year two) if new features keep getting added. Gendai would definitely get $2,000.

This I think would be a very cool way to do it. That way if I get super creative and make more games or updates, they start making more money. And if I get busy with other things I don't feel like I am wasting my yearly subscription (if I was Pro and paid $2000).

Ad hoc builds would still have to be free to make for testing.

Absolutely. DragonFireSDK does something like this ($99.95, includes 1 free build, $10/build after that) and they seem pretty successful...

I would NEVER want something like this, I like having to pay once for the whole year than creating as much as I want

Do you think it would cost you more than $2000 a year with a $50/build model? 40 app store builds in a year seems like a lot, but I guess there are some devs turning out that many.

YES, I do around 3 updates per app after the first version. That's 200 dollars for just one app. Then I can only do 9 more apps for that whole year until I reach the $2000 mark. I expect to do way more than 10 apps in a year.

And I would feel weird having to keep paying per build. I always see a mistake right after I build, and then I have to rebuild it. What would happen then? Would you be charged and extra $50 just for making a tiny mistake and having to rebuild? Or if your app gets rejected?

Arton this would be foe App Store builds (I imagine). You'd still be able to do ad-hoc to test on your device. It's just, when you are ready to release to the store, you have to pay a build fee...

Hmmm, I didn't consider if your app gets rejected. That would be super frustrating.

But yeah, this would only be for app store builds (new game or update). In the 10 app store builds I have done I only had one that had a mistake (which I made) due to the autorotate stuff.

It might be in like year 2 or 3 that I would have more than 40 app store builds in a year. And who knows, I probably would not update everything since as stuff gets old and stops selling I would probably not update.

It might make sense if it was per code-sign. If the service was available, I might try it once. That way, I could test the features of Pro. Arcade Action was designed specifically for iAds. It's very frustrating not knowing if my game could be a winner. From the feedback here, probably not.

So... why don't I just go get basic Unity/iPhone for $300?

It seems that the pricing model for GameSalad is hurting Gendai Games. It pushes customers away to competitors, rather than encouraging developers to upgrade. Recent comments from Tshirtbooth and Utopian Games highlight the severity of this problem.

Add FMG to that list. http://gamesalad.com/forums/topic.php?id=9974#post-72559

Never, I would much rather pay a one time fee, even if it's high than pay per build.

I'm not sure that counts. I interpreted that message as... pro is for real pros... where $2000 is what you'd spend a year on free coffee for the office.

Peace of mind is important. That's why I have a problem getting an iPhone 4 with AT&T. Even if I'm not going to use 2 GB of data in a month... even if I'm going to save money overall... I don't like the idea that I have to watch out for an overage fee.

@Photics: I agree with the iphone 4, unless you have the unlimited data plan grandfathered in, I'd be hesitant as well

I don't mind if they offer the a la carte version of Gamesalad publishing. Perhaps it would be suitable for others to pay a publishing fee per app uploaded.

I just don't want that to be the only option.

All you have to do is sign up for an unlimited data plan on your current phone and then get an iPhone 4 and make sure you tell them you have unlimited and they'll grandfather you in. That's what I did and I'm on my 4 right now haha

@A3MG Are you really asking this question? I think it would be dumb they should just make the Pro $299 a year.
