edited November -1 in Announce Your Game!
After stalking around these forums for months, I am almost done (hopefully) with my very FIRST game ever, after 2 months with GS. Constructive criticism VERY welcome.

Whatcha think? Any comments would be helpful.

(Sorry the stupid QT screen recording sucks).

    Thanks :)

Not being a graphic designer, artist, any kind of developer, and being someone who doesn't even like playing games (just a nerd with lots of spare time and a love for creating and for technology) I have been nervous about my end product and learning all of this stuff! It has been about 2 1/2 months from when I first downloaded GS...and am feeling much more comfortable than I was at first!

I think you need another spawned actor now and then called "Dentist" ;-)

Looks fun, bright and cheery. A couple of constructive crits: there seems to be only 2 types of backgrounds, I'm thinking there should be more for variety. And the "Awesome!" "Wowsers!" "Great!", etc; is really good but I felt, after not many seconds actually, that they didn't really mean anything, they seem to just pop up every few seconds no matter how little points you've scored, or no matter how fast or slow the user is.

Congrats on finishing you first game; let's hope it does well for you. :-)

It looks alright. The crowded colourful background makes it a little hard on the eyes but it's not a real deal braked. The screen that shows you your score after each level looks really nice. The only thing I would change is to remove the "level 1" text at the bottom of the screen. It seems kinda pointless and may end up being more distracting then helpful.

    Good luck with the sales.

Well, looks it might be fun. I would agree about toning down the background... rainbows always scream amateur to me. And I would suggest limiting the fonts to two at the most... and if you must use a stylized font, use it limitedly and think about if it is adding to the design of the game or if it is a distraction before committing to it. The "standard" san-serif fonts may seem dull and overused, but there is a reason why pro's spend a good deal of time considering typography... and often use Helvetica and the like.

Best of luck! Enjoying what you are doing is the most important part. Unless you need a lot of money. :-)

well done ... agree with the above comments re: busy screen images but might be just what the young crowd like ?!? Could you perhaps add a settings button where the Alpha of the background images could be changed (maybe a slider). That way the user could dim the back image and it might make the objects in play pop more for those who might want it.

Also don't know your plan or strategy for this release (free/paid) etc but you could add levels where only certain colors could be clicked and some strategy re the points. Maybe have teh game play set on a timer and the more points you get adds some seconds back on the timer so you are able to play on and get more points??

Trying to be helpful (not irritating) so just throwing out some things that came to mind.

In any case well done and good luck.

Congrats on completing your first game...

Ok so you want helpful critisim...

    Hmm..

As other say, the backgrounds could do with tweaking. They're as bright as the bears and all a little garish. Dim them down a bit, or change the bears/mountains a bit Maybe one colour pallete for the backgrounds another for the bears.

The idea of icecream mountains is great though, a different background for each level and the menu screen would also be a big boost to the quality of the game.

Some other icecream mountain images that could sort of work stylistically:

Create a popping animation for the bubbles, so its more rewarding when you press them. (I'd assume they have a bubble pop animation in 'cut the rope')

When the bubbles are popped the bears look like the slowly fall away and speed up. Would make more sense and look more realistic if they fell away straight away .

(I could'nt hear any sound on the video I assume there is some popping sounds etc).

Nice game idea though, kids will love it.
