Hi,

I just found this refurbished iphone from gamestop, here:

http://www.gamestop.com/iphone/cell-phones/iphoner-3g-8gb-for-att-gamestop-premium-refurbished/97612#media

I just want to purchase a refurbished iphone for testing my games, I don't want a contract, etc...Just for testing purposes....Should I get the 3G or 3GS? Hopefully, I can check and make sure IOS 4.0 is installed........Opinions are welcome....Thanks and God Bless....

Sincerely,

Sunday

I agree, I'd start with an iPhone 4. The iPhone 3GS is pretty old technology (I should know, I have one). And make sure you're running iOS 5 at least. If you already have a newer iPhone and just want more devices for a variety of testing environments then yeah, grab a 3GS.

    $120 seems a little steep for a -- did you say you're looking to buy a 3GS? :P

Apples has a also adopted a different strategy over the past few years.
Faster iterations and forced obsolescence make their old devices seem even older, faster... we are a about a week from the iPhone4 being 3 generations old.
(the release of the iPhone5 also means lots of iPhone4 for sale)
so definitely keep a sharp eye on things like craigslist/ebay if you are looking for a deal, and set a budget... for $120 you should be able to find a iPhone4 no problem...

If all you can afford is a 3Gs it would do fine for you for a while. its compatible with iOS6 even though apple is dropping support for the 3Gs but definitely in no way shape or form spend your money on a 3g if its going to be your only test device.

I would like the others said though if you can only have one device for testing an iPhone 4 is going to be best. Its still good enough to run most every thing pretty smooth but its slow enough compared to the new devices that you will be able to make sure you games run good on the lower end iOS devices.

    Hi All,

Thanks for the quick responses and guidance..... :) Really appreciated it.....Ok, I think I'm going to go with the Iphone 4, but I do have a quick question, does Iphone 4 come with IOS 4? I know I saw a chart on gamesalad, a while back ago that most users of Iphone have IOS4 installed on their devices, so I'm looking to test starting at IOS4......Any thoughts? Thanks and God Bless....

I think it does come with iOS 4 but there's really no reason not to be on the latest public version. Right now being 5.1 I think

    Hi,

Thanks for the article, much appreciated it..... :) So then it would be safe to test with IOS4, and it should be fine with recent versions like IOS5 and beyond. In other words, rule of thumb, is to test on minimum IOS4 and your game should be fine in later versions? Thanks again and God Bless....

No what the stats are saying is test on iOS5 or higher. thats where the majority of users are at. and no just because something works on iOS 4 does not mean it will work on iOS 5
