New To Game Creation

Hey all, I'm a long time iPhone fan and I finally got my new Macbook Pro, I downloaded the SDK and whatnot but I'm looking for somewhere to get started on games. I downloaded this to give it a try so I'll see how it goes.

In the meantime I need art and was just curious if there was anyone that would maybe assist me with some art just to try out for a first game type of thing? Most of you charge money but I don't have much to spend and just wanted to see if everything was really worth investing in. If anyone would like to maybe help me out please reply or just shoot me an email- [email protected] I'd really appreciate it :)

Heh - if I just bought a MacBook Pro, I wouldn't have much money left either!

    Good luck!

Hi Lghtnsurf, if you haven't already, check out the heaps of info in Support, to get you going with learning GS. Also, one of the links there is Resources: Sprites & Sounds, where you can get some free graphics.

Development of a full game, ready to play, takes months (if not years, in some cases); I wouldn't worry at the moment about finished graphics. Perhaps utilize stuff from Resources, or google for free graphics; there's tons out there. Then when you're close to finishing, just replace the graphics with the final ones (and maybe you might have saved up a bit to buy some tailor-made stuff done to your requirements). Just make sure you replace your temporary graphics with the same-size final ones.

    Good luck also!

    :-)

Heh (again) - I was going to buy one last week, but decided to see how well the new job went as it's only temporary so I have to save for a rainy day.

Dammit - I'm too sensible sometimes! (I'm sure no-one here believes me!)

    QS :D

Yeah, graphics are always a tricky part of making your game, especially if you're not artistically inclined. Try some of the freeware (Inkscape and Gimp are the first that come to mind) that's out there and see what you can make with it. If you become any good, try out Pixelmator. Hiring a graphic designer is definitely gonna put a dent in your wallet, and there's no guarantee you'll make it back in the AppStore.
