Adding Tire Upgrade To games?

SikkJewFroSikkJewFro Posts: 75Member

So there are plenty of games where you have a vehicle and you can upgrade the vehicle to make it last longer in levels yadda yadda yadda, one upgrade is the tires, the better the tires are the better the "grip" on it is, an example would be the iphone game "Hill racers" which uses the tire upgrade function, I was wondering if someone could help me figure out how to achieve this effect? I know how to do the selling/purchasing of the upgrade, but I need help figuring out what to change once the upgrade is bought. Thanks in advanced, hope this wasn't too hard to understand

If the question is 'how do I increase the grip of one object on another' - then my one word answer would be 'friction'.

But I have no clue about what is happening in your game, how it is set up, how the main actors moves (presuming it does move, rather than the background) so that's just a guess.

pretend you have an invisible actor thats moving infront of the car, and the car is following that actor at 2(car position - invisible actor position). So when the car starts to follow the invisible actor, it starts off slow but speeds up to catch the position. If you change the 2 to 4*, it will travel 4 times as fast to catch the position, imitating better grip.
