Let me ask one last thing, how the hell do we remove apps from the app store now? I don't see the option. Just tell me how to do that and I won't ask anything from you guys anymore.
This game will probably bomb anyways so I won't even bother wasting my time finishing it, so I'll just save everyone a lot of time and call it quits here and now.
Did your mommy not give you your cup of warm milk tonight and a belly rub?

I probably will. Hell, odds are I'll be back tomorrow. I occasionally have irrational mood swings. I can never tell when they happen, but when they do happen, bad things usually happen as well, so give me a day or two to cool off.........
sumopaint is excellent, I use it with the kids I teach. For not much money as well you can download a desktop version. I think it is built in adobe flash and air.
My day job is as a studio engineer/music producer.
Making a game, is very much like making a piece of dance music, in so much as, anyone can have a go at it if they have the equipment/software.
but.......not anyone can make a good one.
You can't just expect to install a sequencer, and a few plug-ins on a computer, and expect to make a hit. You either write some music, and then take it to an engineer to get the final polish on it.....or you sit and LEARN how to do it yourself. I have been producing music since I was 18 (almost 18 years ago), and I am still learning stuff.
----- You can't just expect to install a game engine, and a few graphics packages on a computer (there are free ones...or if you are so inclined, pirate ones), and expect to make a great game overnight. You can either come up with an idea and then get others to do things like graphics and sound for you....or you can sit and LEARN how to do it yourself.
imo. the app-store (and to some extent GS) have given people unrealistic expectations of how easy it is to become an "iPhone millionaire".
The upshot is, if you have a good game game concept, ace.
1.Take that concept and refine it...and refine it...and refine it...and refine it.
2. Then either learn how to become an artist (THIS IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN OVERNIGHT), or get some cash saved, and pay for some art/artist's time.
3. Refine it
4. Ask people on here for help, but don't whinge when that help isn't what you might have hoped for.
5. Don't give up hope on the down days (and there will be lots of them)
6. refine it.
Your next issue, once you have your game finished, is you will realise that making a great game is only (maybe less than) half the battle.....Just ask Utopiangames, or anyone else who has had a minor hit.

There is a difference between an artist and a graphic designer. I'm an artist, but am not a graphic designer. Now many graphic designers are artists as well, but it isn't exactly the other way round.
It isn't so much you need to be an artist, you just need to be a graphic designer. I can draw shade and stuff on a piece of paper really well, just not on a computer with a mouse. I need a pen/pencil or pen/pencil like object in my hand for me to really let loose in the art department.
I will try all these graphic design programs, but until I can get a digital tablet, it will never be my best work, no matter how good it might look.
Part of that problem is, I write and draw left handed, but I use computer mice with my right hand(and don't say use a left handed mouse....I, ironically, suck with left handed mice).
Koda89 said: Everything is my strength, except for music. I can't make my own music to save my life. And I can't exactly team up with anyone because I don't know anyone who would like to team up with me(plus I don't want anyone sharing my accounts).
I got the impression that you could do everyhing but music. Downloading clipart is not doing graphics! You got some great advice, and you seem to not care. Sounds to me that you are more intetested in making money than games.

I do care, it is just, as I said in the post above yours, I draw with my left hand but use right handed mice only, so I'm not good at drawing on a computer. Until I can truly draw the way I am use to on a computer, I have to use pre made images for at least half of my graphics. I can use the graphic design programs to not have to rely on clip art all the time, but let's be realistic, I don't have 10 years to master these programs. I'll learn what I can in the shortest amount of time, but it won't be much.
And no, I don't care about just making money. I've wanted to make games as my chosen career since I was freaking 5, dude. The problem is, for my to continue making games, I need to be making money from them for the time being. So yes, for right now in the here and now I am focusing more on the money side of things, because without it, I won't be able to focus on the games side of things once I'm done with school.
>>>It isn't so much you need to be an artist, you just need to be a graphic designer
I very much disagree with you there.
to go back to my music analogy...that's the same as saying I don't need to be a musician, I just need to know how to use the tools in Cubase, or Logic, or Fruityloops.
There is a great deal of artistic flair that goes into creating good game graphics........that's why there are people who do it for their job!, and the rest of us don't.
sure....having a good grasp of the tools and being a competent designer will get you "so far", but as has been discussed in this thread already, you need to be looking at the "packaging" of your game.
For example....just talking about looks
Bejeweled 2 is on the app store and also, there are a fair few bejweled clones on there too. And yet, Bejeweled just looks sooooo much better than any of the knock offs. And imo, that's because of the artistic flair the artist(s) has put into the graphics, rather than just workmanlike designing some jewels, and a background etc.

You'll have an easier time making good graphics for a game app if you knew how to properly use the graphic design tools than if you didn't. That's all I'm trying to say.
Good God Koda... Stop making F-ing excuses and just make something that you DO know how to do. Make a damn Doodle game or something.
Use crayons and duct tape...it doesn't matter. Just be creative and use the tools that you know how to use. If that is colored pencils and paper...fine then.
If you are a true artist...then use the brain God gave you to come up with something unique and interesting.
Maybe you should stop making games. Does not sound like you got right the attitude to make it happen. But If this is your dream, heres my advice: remove all you apps. Stop working with GS untill you have mastered Gimp or sumopaint. Write an design doc. The make the game, and polish it to perfection. And get an parttime job.

Good luck... I give up...and I'm going to bed.
I'll never make a doodle game because I quite frankly don't like that art style and it is one of the most overfull genre of games on the App Store(then again, that didn't stop me from making not one but two zombie games.....hmm...)
Wait.....wait...wait! I got it! A yarn game. Y'know, everything is made out of yarn. That hasn't been done to death yet.
You know, if I had known that this thread would turn into my own public execution, I wouldn't have made it. Hindsight's 20/20 afterall....
So yeah, now that I get the feeling that I'm not welcomed here anymore I'll just continue on what I was planning on doing earlier anyways, so, again, thanks for the help and advice, and so long. I won't be back to these forums, ever. And I do mean it this time.

Probably a good reason for that. LOL.
EDIT: Actually, could be pretty cool. Yarn characters and simple coloured card backdrops. Do it! ;-)

OMG, how freaking old are you. you have people going out of their way to help you and your just pissing on them. Grow the hell up and realize that this isn't gonna be handed to you on a platter. I just saw another post from you asking someone to do your freaking graphics basically for free or at least no guarantee of payment. thats not how the world works. Hell i cant get people to email me about doing my graphics and i'm offering some payment. Quit being freaking Debbie downer and take some of these guys advice and put fourth some serious effort.
Um....uh...wow....uh...I have no idea what to say but I just went to Touch Arcade's forum to check up on things there and....well...um...I got a PM from the Senior Producer of Chillingo/Clickgamer saying he's interested in knowing more about my plans for the game....heh....heh....
nobody is trying to kick you out of the forums, believe me. That's been done before on two separate occasions, and it was VERY obvious. I think people are getting frustrated with you because from what I've read, every time someone tries to help, or provide a suggestion you have a reason why you can't do it.
The first three games I made were doodle games. Not because I particularly liked the style, but because that was the easiest way I could get my ideas down and on paper. I penciled, inked and color more paper than I care to remember. I know where my limitations are in art, and so I do my best to work around them.
You said above you're left handed, but only use a right handed mouse. That confused me, why don't you just get a left handed mouse, or a generic mouse and swap the buttons? I understand having no money, but you may have a friend or two who's got an extra USB mouse from the last PC they bought, I've got like 5 in a drawer I've never used. I'm still using the same Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer I bought 8 years ago. Are you in High School or College? Many art departments today have computer labs, and may have a digital tablet you could use while in the lab. You may have better luck with a college, but it couldn't hurt to ask.
and the first person to come out with a Yarn Game would probably do pretty well.

Its 90% identical to Photoshop.
It is a perfect thing to learn with and you can use photoshop tutorials on it.
You may even be able to upload existing PSD templates into...but not sure. Just saw it.
I recommend that you definitely give it a test drive.
There are tons of video tutorials.
Thank! that great! is that html5?

That there could actually be REALLY interesting visually. Like a Mondrian, Kandinsky or a Monet that comes to life within the game.
This is why there are so many Doodle games. Because the art department doesn't know photoshop.
I mean I could try it, and would be worth a few laughs, but I'm more of the pen, pencil, ink kind of artist.
