The last update to GS was on July 23! Its now September 15th! I am not angry, all I am saying is that about 54 days is enough time to release even small update! With time like this to work on an update I have high expectations.

Gendai have stated that the next update is a pretty massive one... we should expect huge performance increases etc. I don't mind if they take a little longer to get it right ;-)

I don't mind either but at least give us a date when the update will be ready.

They are rebuilding the entire scene graph (the way all the memory and actors are handled in the engine) They mention massive performance increases, memory leak fixes, and pause functionality.

    Hopefully we'll get it soon!

Same. I've stopped all work on Route 86 until I have the update in my hot little hands.

I imagine all our games will still work? That would be an insane move if they don't.

It is my understanding that everything SHOULD still work.
However, updates in the past have been somewhat traumatic!
  • butterbeanbutterbean Member Posts: 4,315
Minor bugs are acceptable, and almost always occur with updates, but if it renders our games useless, and we can't provide updates, that's not okay

I think cause they're working on gamecenter.

I hope the coming update does indeed bring some performance improvements.. :) and I hope it'll be compatible with my current project.. if not, oh well.. back to 0 :)

Though I wish this were the case, they said in their last yellow post that it wasn't coming in the "next" update, but was down the road.

Yep.. I haven't posted much on here as I have been busy the last month and a half with other projects outside of GS. But that hasn't stopped me from being a LURKER! ;)

    Hey, everybody!

Believe me, we totally understand the frustration. Yes, the time that has passed since our last version would definitely be fine for small update. What's coming is no small update. We're in the crunch right now and trying to get this to you as soon as we can, but most importantly, we're making sure it's done right.

Thank you for your patience and we think the next update will be well worth it.

    Sounds like it will be.

    ...How soon is soon? :)

    BTW. Thanks for responding Yoda.

It says a lot, but it also says nothing.

-- What's in the next update? Why is it such a big update?
-- Does it have Game Center?!
-- What is the estimated release date? (Should we launch apps now or wait for the improvements?)

The greatest yellow post I remember was something like, "I can't say much more than, get your apps ready for 1024x768". This is nothing like that. I think the communication should be better.

Always love a yellow post but I think they should come voluntary not after reading everyone asking what's going on I understand they busy but I think it took about 5 min to come up with that post if u include reading all of them b4 it and if we can't get a road map how about a priority list

Ps I love what GS does for me and want it to succeed and I can tell u as a fellow business owner communication can make or break a company

I hope some members are able to go to these meet ups... and report what they learn after a few drinks.

Reporting... hey... that seems like a good use for my degree in Photojournalism. Perhaps I should bring a camera to the NYC event, but Gendai Games didn't state where the event would be.

I'm going to have to chime in here and let you know that I've been in this before with Torque 2D and even recently with Corona. I'm a fan of all three engines in their own rights, but when it came to communication, I've ran into similar glitches. I'm just learning it appears to be the norm during their periods of tremendous growing pains, and while that shouldn't excuse Gendai Games or Garage Games or Ansca Mobile, I can tell you that for the most part, the wait was worth it every time.

I can only imagine that, with Gendai's recent $1M cash infusion and a bunch of investors trying to put their hand on the tongs that mix the "salad," it would seem to be both a blessing and a curse to those on the outside.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel, just hold steady and try to enjoy the ride.

    When will we have arrays?
This is a big limitation, gs can not do some type of game!

Actually, the scene graph handles the graphical scene. (The Designer)

Thanks for understanding my and our frustration.

According to this yellow sticky, they will be attending the Comic-Con in NY, but not no one needs to actually attend it as well. We will likely meet nearby at a bar, restaurant, a Starbucks, meeting room, back alley, strip club, underground kumite, back room casino, you name it. Me and my iPhone 4 will be there, I can record the event in HD, too!

How you like your iPhone 4?

I'm loving mine. The HD recorder is what made me give in. You get a Phone, Digital Camera, HD Video Recorder, a Portable Game Console, a Video/Music player, and a Web Browser all for $199. (Mine = 16GB.)

Just because all the other companies don't communicate during major updates makes it right I'm just saying it's better business to communicate with ur customers

Good communication is critical to their business.

What's up with Gendai Games?! I try to picture it from their point-of-view. I'll pretend to be Yodapollo, writing a better post...

Hey gang... here's what's new. Game Salad version 0.9.0 will be available on September 30. It will include basic Game Center support, for leader boards and achievements. Advanced Game Center features are still several months away. Pause is now a new behavior. The new version also sports improvement to loading times and game performance. Oh, and the creator should stop slowing down every 15 minutes.

Oh, and here's what we're doing with Pro... it's staying $1999 per year, but we've added in-app purchases, webview and some MySQL database support. That should add plenty of value to the subscription. Turns out it was easy. Sorry about that! That's our bad for making you wait so long.

Oh, and we'll void your subscription if you use a Pro license to circumvent restrictions for Express users. But hey, if you want to start your own publishing company, or make Game Salad games for clients, we're cool with that. Our legal department is busy making changes to the license agreement. It should be live in a few weeks. We're just giving you the heads-up for now.

One more thing, we'll be at the Apple store in Soho (NYC) next month. It's free admission, so bring the whole family... except the screaming kids.

Hey, perhaps it's good that they're so secretive. We could guess what they're up to. It's like a fun game.

So... what if part of my imaginary scenario is true. What if they say they're going to launch GameSalad 0.9 on September 30... but it doesn't make it? What if they're late? Are we going to hate them forever? No, if they keep us posted with delays. Is it going to tip off their competitors? Who cares? They're already out there and getting better. The community is the real strength of GameSalad... the friendly and helpful people of this community. By not communicating with the community, Gendai Games is damaging their best strength.
