I just started working with Gamesalad about a couple of months ago and I'm going to be pissed if I can't publish to my own iTunes account. I don't mind paying at the time of publishing rather then annually, but if I have to post to the App store under Gamesalad and share profits I'm going to find an alternative to GS or learn to use xCode better. This is a huge disappointment if they take over control of OUR apps. I will definitely leave GS if it GS Direct turns into GS "owns and controls your sh*t".
Here is an idea: I have the Apple Developer account so I can add other people to my account and if they still have their GS account then they could use my Apple dev account to download the file for me. Or better yet, get the app done through GS and send it back to me (not sure if that would work).
@iDeveloper-Is-Leaving-GameSalad they are probably all shocked by how critical and rude many people have been tonight. They are probably deciding what they should do next. In my opinion you have all been way too uncomprehensive.
I just think right now that they as well have to sink this all in, and when everyone is shouting at them and telling them they made a mistake, how would they respond?
I say we all give them some time. If this doesn't change, then we can go off and leave GS in the dirt.
Thankfully i still have 7 months in my subscription So I still have some time of freedom!
I had decided to leave GS as a final product tool due to the unflexible nature of the app about 2 weeks ago. This is just icing on the cake but luckily it won't really affect me since I am leaving anyhow. You can not hope to become a true game developer using this tool set. It is too clunky, not enough freedom due to the simplistic nature. It is a great tool for prototyping, and that is what I plan to use it for.
But if you get a major publisher or anyone interested in promoting your product, you can't do something as simple as speed up load times due to the lack of tools you got at your disposal. For the hobbyist this won't be an issue but for someone making rich content games, this is important. Most companies who publish games got requirements for load times and what not, unfortunately that is what kills this product for me.
-Great community though, and still a good tool for what it is. Dane
I'll stick around and see what positives come out of this- see the editor updates, etc. However, I will be checking out my options, and downloading the Corona and Unity trials (as soon as Corona get's theirs back up ) with the knowledge that there's a very good chance that I can't use GS any longer.
Well just spent some time buying LiveCode iOS...pre-release $99 (with free update when released ...next month???) you actually get LiveCode personal and iOS plug-in...plus a bundle of expert video training...
wow what a Guide/help they already have done...and know the in-program dictionary has thousands of code scripts to copy/paste/drag...and code is simple in syntax...
this is a real solid SDK and you own it for the price! commercial version is only $249.
you have to have an Apple Developer's account to utilize the iOS... so it wont be used for much crapWare.
LiveCode iOS and Live Coding is so intriguing...all visual editor...with many tool display palettes... you edit your program in runtime.
check it out... Arrays, Text, dataBases, multimedia, vector graphics, much more...
of course you can download a free 30 day trial...but not the iOS until it is released.
I just found this thread by accident and I hope GS has changed their mind.
A little background. I signed up a few months ago and finally have time to look at GS.
Has this issue changed? If I understand correctly if I make a game, it will be under the GS brand and their name will be involved with my own brand? If anyone from GS can post an official reply or if anyone can provide me a link. There is a lot of info here.
Please let me know. I am a total to GS and just trying to get my feet wet and wondering if this would be a good option.
What exactly does "but they also have an option to publish with them" mean?
For example, if I make a game, does it mean that GS can then say, "Well since you game has over 5 million downloads, we would like a part of that action by exercising our option to publish your game."
GsLover while I appreciate your help it looks to me that GameSalad does not make this very important distinction clear enough at the outset of sign up.
With other APIs I would get 70% and there would be no mention of what dev enviroment I used. In some instances that is important.
Again, if GS staff or powers-that-be can give this thread a final look over and set the record straight with some form of full upfront transparency on a very important issue.
While this thread may be 5 months old, it is 24 hours new for *me*. I just saw it and thank goodness for that.
Anyone else have any more info. I'd like to see something official from GS themselves. From my viewpoint, they seem very quiet about this. Just quickly looking through this thread are there any GS staff involved to set the record straignt?
Just askin'
*note - just to be clear, I am very impressed with GS so far but still need to know what it is I am getting into.

Give us the full facts- or say nothing at all!!!
Then why isn't the staff posting in their own threads? (much less OUR threads)
other people to my account and if they still have their GS account
then they could use my Apple dev account to download the file for me.

Let's calm down and wait to see the reality of their plans.
It's Gendai's arrogance that I think is the main issue. We're constantly treated poorly with little feedback etc. A little humanity would help.

I'll be finishing the one I started and after that I'll wait and see what GS does. I'll be focusing my energies on Unity or Corona or Xcode.
I think unity is the way to go.

Thank you.
How has it been resolved? My game stays my game with my name and no mention of GS?
Do you have an official link from GS that explains this?
What exactly does "but they also have an option to publish with them" mean?

hmmm...really that isn't so bad.
GSLover thank you for your replies. I really appreciate it. I have to admit, when I saw the post I got concerned.
ok...I'm gonna fire up GS and see what happens.
