Don't give up if you've been developing your game. This new system might work great for you. I was interested in what you were making, as I seem to recall you were asking some good questions.

It's a coin fountain game. Again, rather simple but nice looking.

Yes. I was one of those who just spent about 2 month on my first app. Its a simple one as I was advised by some of you to take it easy in the beginning.
But now I can't send it to Apple cause I waited to long to sign up with GS.
And its not always about the money, all I hoped for was to maybe recover my $200 Investment.
But it was fun doing it and I am now ready to start something more involved. Thanks to a lot of help from this community and Photics book.
I just don't understand why GS is closing the door and not have their new system in place?

See to me this is a legit complaint and a realistic attitude.
    I'd be pissed.
But, it certainly didnt put you out on the streets like some members here make it out to be.

IF and only IF game salad was the sole way i payed my bills i would be viewing this as a stressful paycut but I dont think that is even the case for 99% of the folks here.

@James: It may not affect 99% of the community NOW, but a portion of that 99% is now faced with even more of a struggle to make a living off games, whereas before they had a better chance with the old model.

I stand firmly in my position, and I truly believe that nothing good can come out of this new model, for it's members, or for Gamesalad.

With there half-baked announcement Gendai have evoked a response from their users, their supporters whether they like it or not, they would be foolish not to listen.

Hey just look at GAP, working for an ad agency god knows how much money they spent on their new logo, but when the loyal GAP fans went mad, they were brave enough to hold their hands up 'admit a mistake' and change back - I admire that! Gendai are you listening!

I think it makes it easier for them. There is now no annual fee, also no Apple fee... most people don't even crack the $150 mark, so this new business model will work for the people at the bottom end of the scale.

I do think there should still be a pro version too, though.

    Anyway, WELL SAID, JAMES!
  • I really think what GameSalad is doing is absolutely amazing. They are letting people who don't know how to deal with provisioning files, code, submission processes, etc, make a game! Do you realize how many designers want to make a game but don't have the ability due to lack of programming knowledge?
  • That is indeed their motto.

It's not like they are just changing the plan and not offering anything. They are going to make the whole process easier, fix bugs, etc.

And let's not forget, this is a business. They are supplying an amazing value for very little price, but they are not a charity. I usually have to split everything I make 50% with a programmer...not with GameSalad! So if they want to take 30%, then they dang well should. They deserve it.

I really like the submission fee idea as well. It will make people think twice about submitting a crappy game. Making people pay a small fee for submission will make sure they dont just pump out a random piece of crap and hope it sells. That would just hurt the GameSalad brand.

I agree, I was quite stunned at first but have come around and can really see the benefits. I'm really looking forward to the update now!

    you said $30 submission fee?

Whatever Gamesalad decides to do, I wish them the best.

I know I have other options, and I'm not afraid to move on, and pursue using another tool.

I don't think they will succeed without implementing an option to keep the PRO devs around.

This is the part that worries me.....

Besides knowing that I will have to make big changes for myself, I'm worried Gamesalad won't be around in 2 years.

Umm.. I didn’t know anything about provisioning files, code or submission processes before I got my year's membership(s).. It took an hour's reading/tinkering until I *did* know enough to get my apps in testable state and ready for submission. The only people the change benefits are people who aren't prepared to make any (time or money) investment up front on dev acct memberships..

I like the idea of game making for the "rest of us".. I thought the previous model worked well for that. IMO they really aught to have a two tier system and maintain the pro accounts or something at least. :/

The moaning may be OTT but I can totally see where it's coming from! Nobody should be 100% depending on GS as the OP suggests but it's going to be really difficult for some people and they're just venting their anger/fear/uncertainty. Some of them are getting their dreams crushed whether they need to "grow up" or not. Whether their dreams were realistic is another matter. :)

@butterbean unfortunately they have a model that makes some sense but completely poops on the people that spent the last year or more getting them here. It is simply a totally callous and thoughtless thing to have done.

It's a pretty smart plan. The only problem is, it screws over anyone who was/is:

    a) Adequate at making games already with GS.
    b) Wanting to keep control over their own account.

Me too, I think that is one of the saving graces of the new structure.. I wonder what'll happen with point updates to our games/apps though? obviously we don't pay then as well.. I hope..?

    @Rob2 that's the vibe I'm getting too. :(
