Yeah please no third tier! I payed for the pro version thinking I would be able to get ride of the splash screen in the future. I don't want to pay more for a feature that I thought I already payed for
Wow I'm in the boat of I wanted to see what I can create first then pay so I can use my branding. I didn't realize there wan't an option to take their splash screen off. Got to think about it now. $499 for me is paying to get my own plash screens (I thought)

Come on guys this has been beat to death. The splash screen is there and not a big deal. Should there be an expensive option to remove it, probably, but the again GameSalad is geared toward amateurs not pro developers who are going to use this product for other clients. Theres nothing that says you can't do that but if you do, deal with the splash or don't use the product. I found GameSalad because of the splash screen in a game. Many others did too i'm sure. Hence removing the splash screen from games limits the number of developers which in turn will doom GameSalad.
tenrdrmer said: Come on guys this has been beat to death. The splash screen is there and not a big deal.
I almost didn't use GameSalad to create "Secret Admirer". I think that splash screen is a problem.
1) GameSalad has a horrible reputation. That splash screen can scare off reviewers and annoy customers. This leads to bad reviews - or no reviews - which leads to more lost customers.
2) It's bad for freelancers, as they might not want any branding on their app.
3) There are better ways to promote GameSalad.
A third tier is silly. Right now, the free version of GameSalad should be enough to get the word out there. If it's not, then the team needs to rethink the strategy.
I think when the software leaves beta, the software should be even cheaper. It should be a Mac App Store exclusive - like Pixelmator - and there should be an option to remove the splash screen. Start an affiliate program instead.
GameSalad can make money by starting a market... a place to sell templates and game content... like Daz3d does.
Even better... the software should be web based. That way, it could work on a PC or iPad. There aren't too many people with Macs. It's like what... 10% of the PC market. So... out of that... there are like what... 10,000 possible developers? If GameSalad is expanded to the PC market, and the web plug-in is improved, it could be a solid alternative to Flash. So, if people need to download the GameSalad plug-in, there's the marketing. Apps can be left alone.
I like to imagine that... an army of websites... running GameSalad games... with affiliate links back to the GameSalad website... encouraging the entire Internet to make games.
GameSalad is really wasting their time with this small stuff. The forced splash screen should be removed with the next update for professional subsctibers. $500 a year is a lot of money. A forced splash screen just irritates existing customers and it doesn't seem to be doing enough at attracting new customers.

I was blown away by the features of GameSalad and being I'm a visual guy, not a coding guy, GameSalad appeared to be great for me. But one of the things holding me back is the current splash screen. As a graphic designer and short film maker, their splash screen, imho, works better as a leader for a video, but is horrible for a game. A fade-in is a bad idea because the loading is done on a white screen. And it's way too long, it should be two seconds tops.
I do however agree that branding is a very important part to a company. Like seeing a game made with the Unreal engine or Doom III engine. I do however thing that there should be a way to have our own slash screen as well. So I actually think a three tier system would work.
Tier 1 - Free - GS Splash (2 seconds long max, multiple looks/colors to choose from to match your game/style better). Tier 2 - $499 - Your Splash Screen Followed by GS splash (both 2 secs) + PRO features. Tier 3 - $999 - Your Splash Screen only + PRO Features.

Corona SDK for 199$US. Not a heck splash screen and its an excellent tool.
I think it would be nice to get a comment from gendai on how they see the splash screens, from a business perspective. Photics poll is quite telling about the effectiveness or otherwise of them. I would love to hear from someone on high about it (anyone?).

+1
I'm getting tired of wishing people well then welcoming them back two weeks later, then repeating ad infinitum

This would be useful. We'll probably be told that the splash screen will stay, but we'll get 'options'.
I know they want to keep it, but forcing people to have GS branding, in any form, in their apps will lead to a lot of unhappy customers, me included.
One reason being that it feels like something's being taken away from you. If you've had your own splash screen with Legacy Pro, not even having the *option* to remove the GS one seems a step backward.
I've suggested a compromise many times: Remove all branding for Pro users, keep it for the free users.
Personally I still see the best way to go is to charge per AppID built on their server, say $50. Remove the GS branding all together and all need for pro/free accounts. Turn themselves into a real development tool for everyone and cut the crap 'have a go' apps out all at the same time.
So I am not the biggest fan of the splash screen, because we get the old expensive Pro version, but we don`t complain, because I am sure (and we a re in strong contact with our game players) that they don`t even care about it. No one can tell me that if you game is good designed and works well will ever complain that you develop it with GS. If your own ego is an issue than learn Objective-C or use other stuff.
mulyinc said: If your own ego is an issue than learn Objective-C or use other stuff.
The issue is for those that would like to use their pro license to make apps for others (like a pro). Companies don't want someone elses advertising on the front of their app.
For me personally, maybe it is ego, I would currently prefer my apps were not associated with the GS logo as it is synonymous with really low quality apps. Maybe not a problem for such a big audience of individual purchasers as there are on itunes but definitely an issue for review sites and the media.
But true, compare it with learning objective c and I will take the splash screen any day. Just would like to know Gendai's rationale for having it.

Sure if you do contract / freelancing game design / development for others it could be an issue. Thats correct. But I don`t see the issue for game publishing on the store. Also get very well connected with major web blogs etc. they don`t even take care with what kind of stuff you get your things done.
But yes I can understand that it is strange if you provide this kind of stuff to a client.
Well I think they know what the majority of subscribers think....but it looks like this one is going to run and run....
But for now, I'd just like to see them fix the current loading image/animation, and make it a single, clean image that doesnt act in such a way that it makes our apps look like theyve crashed.
Its been over a month and a half since Yodapollo said they were looking at it as top priority, and its not changed. Its a server side change, and could be quickly changed to a single static screen, so theres no real reason why it should have to wait for an engine update to be changed.
I'd have thought it would have been a high priority for a company to make sure its splash screen looked and worked as professional as possible... but in its current incarnation, it doesnt present a good impression.
To leave something this long, that could have been changed so easily, just looks like neglect and incompetence.
Wow I'm pissed right now because I sent a video of one of my new games and they love it but just want the splash screen removed. Which I can't do so it sucks because they have a bunch of top paid iphone apps in the app store I knew I should have learned corona ha
Since I haven't released a game yet I've been staying out of the Splash Screen debate for the most part but the thread on Touch Arcade talking about Utopian's Shadow Run game is a little disconcerting.
You probably don't care about another opinion on this matter, but in case you do, I would like to bring my point of view. I discovered GS one week ago, By a friend telling me he had a demo of it, and that he thought was awesome. I immediately tried it myself and since then, started to invest lots of my time to do a prototype game, that I will continue to work on until It reach the quality of the best aps on IOs.
I really thought the Pro version was bringing the Splash screen on/off option and discoverd one hour ago this thread that I actually entirely read.
I'm a graphist working in the video game industry, and having the chance to be able to do everything myself on small games and ideas is awesome. But the first thing I would remove from my game If i ever finish one would be every splash screens... nobody cares, It's taking some times out of your game or loading often, and what people want to do is play, they don't care about your name, your company or your brand, for their is 300000000 other aps and company in the world they don't care about either.
I would be proud, for it's logical and important, to place "powererd by XXX" somewhere, in a credits from a menu, on a main scipts with copyrights, ect, BUt I would choose to place it and present it then... Paying suddenly for two options (Ads that i don't want anyway, and Links that I don't care either) is to me just making me wonder, why I should pay for a point I can't choose to get or not.
I will not stop using gamesalad, for it's free and easy to make prototype with, but Knowing I can't eventually go more "Pro" by deciding how and where I can show credits of what's behind the wheel of a products, will certainly make me wonder on what to use on the future when I will come to pay for a software to make a final product to publish on the market.
Thx again for reading if you ever do. And congrats on this great product.
I paid for gamesalad, and i agree with many. they really need to get rid of force splash screen. after my simple game is released im going to recode it manuel and get rid of the gs connections altogether.

That to me seems foolish. you will go through all the work to recode yet more than likely your game will be buried in the app store buy the time the code version is ready so you will be updating months long of work for coding to an app that will not even benefit from the new release status. Is that really a good use of your time?

Forced Splash Screen...
• Xcode - Nope
• Corona - Nope
• Flash - Nope
• Unity - Nope
• Torque 2D - Not sure
You forgot one; Cocos2D, unless that is what you mean by Xcode.
The forced splash screen sucks, especially if you want a good reputation.
You mean to say that if my game is slammin' that it will automatically have a bad wrap because of the GameSalad splash?
