Ya i emailed them b4 and said if you think GS sucks try my game Star Daze HD and then say GS sucks and they never got back to me lol
By the way, Star Daze HD is a nice game, but perhaps you should have made it with a space/stellar background rather than a wood panel? Maybe it's just my years of watching Star Trek, Star Wars, Starman, and Spaceballs, that's what I think of first.

And...to illustrate what the thread is about, heres the latest review I just got in for the recent update to iSUB (with new 0.9 splashscreen)...

    --------------------------------------------------------

    GameSalad = Bad Games - ★

    by iPhone Gamers - Version 1.2 - 28 January 2011

Once I launch the app, I immediately saw GameSalad and I knew it would be bad since I have tried games made by it and they were all bad. I still want to try it and the control is almost a second delay to any touch input. Don't waste your time and developers should avoid using such crap.

    ---------------------------------------------------

Im happy to accept the game isnt the best in the world... but its certainly not the worst on the appstore either... but it seems to be the fact that its a GameSalad game that the reviewer seems to be raging about...

Now I know a lot of people say it doesnt matter about the splashscreen, as the buyer doesnt see it until after theyve downloaded the game... but it obviously doesnt stop them from posting anti GS reviews for your apps once they have it on their device.

    ...and so the saga continues....

It is very disappointing that the video is still up!

    I reported it because:

1 it makes racial references regarding black people
2 it makes fun of people in wheel chairs
3 the opening is very unprofessional

But most unprofessional is youtube for disregarding my request to review it as it clearly is not in compliance with their statues!

Which the exception of five people, you guys could not be bothered to give it a thumbs down??

I think the best thing to do in situations like this, is to just keep making some great games and give gamesalad a good reputation!

these guys are tools, but they do have a point about people not making buttons change colour or show they have been pressed. only a few GS devs seem to add an effect. I've never been bothered by the splashscreen, but mine never stays on as long as the one in that video.

I'm 10000% behind Chunky on this one.

Yes, the buyer doesn't see the splash till after they've downloaded the game.

But if you want to be taken seriously, and are trying to get your app noticed in the sea of games available, sending a review copy out to websites with a GS splash screen on it will not help.

It breaks my heart to say it, but being associated with the GameSalad 'brand' is not doing anyone any favours.

I understand that, from the GS point of view, giving away their software (literally!) means that they want to keep the splash screen on games. Their brand is all they have.

So here's a compromise (that won't be heard).

If you haven't paid for the software, then you have to accept the GS branding in your game. You got GS for free, after all.

If you've PAID for the software, ANY GS branding is removed.

Not only would that keep pro users happy, but it would add VALUE to the pro proposition, encouraging more to upgrade.

One of the number one things people complained about when pro was $2k was that they wanted to get rid of the splash screen but it was too expensive.

Now that the price is far more affordable, the option to remove the splash screen has been removed.

    Crazy.

Project Air is my next game. It won't have a GS Splash screen, and I'm bloody glad because the GS branding would make my game look gaudy and cheap.

Any future implementation of GameCentre and Twitter/Facebook must be branding free, at least for pros.

Let me be clear about something. There are people here who have the GS logo on startup who have sold far more than me - and I don't HAVE a GS splash screen.

What I'm talking about is giving us our independence. About letting us be respected within the wider iPhone community and not associated with the kinds of people that upload templates or rip other people off - essentially, the con-artists of the community.

My very real fear is that with that $1m investment, the focus went away from 'how do we improve the tool' to 'how do we market ourselves'.

Get the tool right first. Please. I am literally begging you here.

Give your *current* customers what they need to make outstanding games and keep our customers happy.

THEN you'll see an upswing in new accounts and a less moany community.

    /endrant

Scales, Notes and Chords is my next app and it won't have a GS splash screen ether :)

    QS,

It seems to me that people only don't like gamesalad because of bad Gamesalad Games. They should improve their splash screen to show good games made with Gamesalad, I think.

the thing about pro having no splash screen is, once a game made with non pro starts getting popular and making money. they will buy pro right away and then forcing a gs splash is basically useless. the only games that would be able to be recognized as gamesalad games would be the noobs. it would be harder for a free user to get noticed when the gs logo is constrained to all of the bad games

But they wouldn't have paid a thing for GS in the first place, whereas others have paid $200 (express to pro) or $500 (pro).

At $2k, yes, it would seem silly to pay that much for splash screen removal. But at $500, it's pretty much a no-brainer.

Sadly, I hear the same response on Touch Arcade when they see it's
a Gamesalad game. I need to round up $500 for the pro version pretty soon.
