Yeah, I saw it last night right under Angry Birds. And today, it's the #1 app, over Angry Birds. Strange goings on right there. That was fast. And it's not even in N&N.
To me the game looks fantastic. I can see why it has earned the number one spot. IDK if its just me but this trailer just blew me away I really like the back story of it.
I think it's a great game, and I think the art style is particularly cool. I think people see a game in the #1 spot, they wonder why it made it's there, and immediately jump to criticism.
While it's not as deep as Angry Birds, I'm sure with support and updates, it will add more features. Angry Birds has been out for awhile now, so they continue to add more levels and updates. Will be interesting to see if this one stays in the top spot for awhile.
I'm not necessarily saying its undeserving cus the art is pretty cool, I'm just shocked at the amounts of reviews and buzz it's gotten in ONE WEEK. Keep in mind, this game style is not exactly new.
procedural graphics? WOW, I did not know that shaders can be programmed? Does anyone know how that is done?
As far as the game goes ... it looks just like every other game out there. Move, collect certain objects, avoid others .... I wish there GS would come to grips with the splash screen ... seeing this, I wouldn't mind giving a game a try but DIFFERENT than the above routine ...
Still, I'm interested to learn more about shading and how they did this (procedural texture) thing?
yeah, i wouldn't knock it. not everyone out there is a hardcore gamer. this type of game play is so simple that anyone can pick it up and play, yet it offers a good bit of challenge after just a couple minutes of play.
I dowbloaded yesterday and its awesome! Will love to make a gane like that. I also stay in bed playing for hours tsb whats your récord? I did like 80.000. Cheers
Ps: would love a template of this! I was thinking in make One! But dunno yet, it looks Very difficult with ga becouse of curves, it needs to many rect actors.
@magonicolas... It would probably be hard to meet a nice equilibrium between fps and 'curveness', but then again, I have no idea how well iPhone4 handles GS games.
EDIT: maybe not, I watched the video above! That looks like a cool game though
The game is full of charm. From the relaxing music, through to the simple yet beautifully drawn graphics the game just shows how lovingly its been crafted.
Its a simple game, with a simple mechanic... but its been done very, very well.
It deserves its success, and I can see why its become such an instant hit.
Isnt it a one man developer too... which is always nice to see!

I may be wrong but I don't think you can make a game like Tiny Wings in GS without pixel collision. Hopefully they will introduce it soon but that relies on Box2D introducing it first I believe.
I would also like to point out that this game does not have Gamecenter or any other leader board currently incorporate. It goes to show, that if you make a compelling game, they will come, with or without so called must have features.
It's number 1 because it's not a clone or a piece of crap.

It has OpenFeint.
True, but no GameCenter or any leaderboards of any kind. It does have achievements, but that's besides the point. My original point still stands, your goal should be to make a game that stands on its own merits and not features that every other game and their mother also have.
all i'm saying is i dont see the whole fuss, no enemies, no powerups (kinda), no characters, no new maps (just color changes really)... i come off as a hater i just REALLY don't see how this is NUMBER ONE. it would be another thing if it was top 10, but number 1? over the almighty angry birds lol idk about that one.
The graphics and music are AMAZING. but can that make a game number 1? I guess so lol look at this:

It's an individual, too.
I have become a super spike dislike junkie due to the TA reviews. So maybe lots of TA readers picked up some of the games they featured.

All the code, art, and music was done by one guy, very inspirational

Emphasis on affordable
If you don't see the charm and appeal of this game then... I don't know what to tell you.
The most of us (including me) has to focus less on making money and put more of our hearts when develop a game.
Sincerely, Tiny wings is making me rethink how I have to drive my "carreer" as a game maker from now.
Money has to be a consequence. Period.
