thats what i'm saying, why is a one level game paid let alone number one on the store? just goes to show u never know till u try i guess, that guy must be so happy thats awesome
I've not bought it yet... but it looks great. Just LOOKS like a game that will be good. And that's half the battle. If it looks like it might be good, or quirky, it WILL sell.
Once it started selling though, it seems to have gained some really good momentum. Frontpage on TA, apparently some good twitter buzz.
Just goes to show, a simple game, that seems to play nice, and look nice, and sound nice......actually does some nice business.
All that... and it launched without Game Centre ;o)

i think casual games sell more than hardcore games... i could be wrong.....
maybe its just me, im not like addicted like everyone else seems to be, i played like 20 times and tried to see the replay value and there really is none for me, guess its my humble opinion lol
cbowers428 said: all i'm saying is i dont see the whole fuss, no enemies, no powerups (kinda), no characters, no new maps (just color changes really)... i come off as a hater i just REALLY don't see how this is NUMBER ONE. it would be another thing if it was top 10, but number 1? over the almighty angry birds lol idk about that one.
I don't think people play or enjoy games because the game has power-ups and enemies. If the game pushes certain emotional/instinctive buttons then it will be played again and possibly enjoyed. Wanting to play and enjoying are not quite the same thing but we probably tend to confuse the two (and call it addictive).
The art style is very compelling though. I reckon that alone is enough for a $0.99 impulse buy. I got it, I think its a very good iphone game. The guy who made it is clearly very talented.
I think it strikes a chord with people because it has such a positive energy to it. It's an underdog story for starters (which I think most people are suckers for - at least I am), it has a cute main character with a lot of personality (great "talking" sound effects), when the game ends you don't "fail" or "die" you just snuggle up in your nest and get a good night's sleep.
While I can't see this staying above angry birds for long it has inspired me to start a new game. While I cannot come anywhere close to tiny wing's art style I hope this next game will have that same positive energy. I am finding that it is a hard thing to do. It is easy to make a game that a 5 year old thinks is cute but it is hard to make something with "positive energy" that reaches gamers of all ages without seeming childish.
videogames and much like EVERYTHING else in life, there is NO SET PONT...n ONE STYLE for everyone. i think the ppl (such as myself) aren't too wowed by this game is because ts just not ourTYPE of game. it doesn't mean its a BAD game. not at all. infact it might be a good game but like i said its just not for some ppl. some ppl like power ups and enemies, other like cute nonsense games, some like cooking games some like puzzle games etc etc
that being said this game is NOT one of a kind. i seen other games like this, but it IS polished and looks cool so yea....
No doubt this game is great. calm, peaceful, and I cant stop playing. even during my math test today I was playing. maybe some upgrades would have been nice though DL
that helps alot. I am taking this into consideration.Plus I hate when HUGE games like nova and infinity blade are on the ios devices. I mean, those games are for ps3's and 360's. its just too hard to touch and tilt for those kind of games. I agree with what that guy said. simplicity, creativity, and limitations are always good. DL

hate it or not, next gen gaming on portable devices is here to stay. i for one love them. many others as well..
That was indeed a great read - thanks for posting that!
We were discussing Tiny Wings tonight in the bar. We came to the following conclusions:
*The game name is not a rip-off, trying to cash in on another game's success. The guy could easily have called it 'Tiny Birds', for example. The game was not trying to 'con' people into buying it! *The graphics are just beautiful - by just looking at it, you *want* to play it! *We did not have enough drinks *The game mechanic is simple for most people, but difficult to master. *There are no on-screen controls to spoil the view! *It was made with much love. I love the dedication on the credits screen, and can imagine how proud that person must be of the game creator right about now! *Jake was astonished that we still hadn't bought more drinks. *He was also astonished that the game had no marketing at all. The guy, as far as I'm aware, didn't spend a penny. To which Jake replied "I guess the crux of the matter is to have a good game!"
Take what you will from that!

EDIT: Oh, and it charms the pants off you the very first time you play it!
Apparently theres a tiny wings "clone" coming for android

You guys are looking at this from a developer standpoint. Look at it from the consumer Standpoint knowing nothing of development. This is a one scene/level game but in-fact the are 9 islands which are levels in themselves and then the multiplier/nest challenges which are unlocked one at a time as you complete the previous i'm not sure exactly but it seems there are over 20+ "levels" of the game. Its actually quite challenging on the harder challenges and later islands. Truly as a developer you should be breaking down how simple yet complex this game is and learn from it instead of being pissed it made number 1. and re-playability is even with such few "levels" I personally have numerous hours of game play out of it and have not beat it. That very impressive for an app most games I have played can be beaten in a couple hours on solid GamePlay.
Yeah, I agree, the consumers are more or less clueless about the process,(unless they ARE a developer ) and really don't care about the programing, as long as it's fun.
