@Sledhead ... the games need to be created with GameSalad...you submit a video once your finished (to this thread) so the game could be for iphone/web/ipad/mac. I think most people are making for the iphone/itouch.
@Blazing ... Sorry but no you cannot submit miner escape as you did not make it for the contest, so there is no thread to follow your work and you were not constrained to a 3 week deadline. So it would be completely unfair for the other competitors. But by all means start a new game and take part... :-)
I'm loving how popular this is getting, quite a few threads have popped up on the forum.
Hoping to start on mine soon. (just need to finish a few things first).
As soon as I read the contest title I got a few ideas and one of them is constantly popping in my head telling me "You got a winner, you got a winner, ..." but time, another project in the work and seriously bad art skills are trying to shut that voice off.
I think that probably I will try to give it a go...
I want to attempt this, but it would be 100x easier for me to create it for the mac instead of ios.. is this allowed? I don't have a mac dev account either..
I just think it would be easier for me as a beginner to program keyboard and mouse/clicks into my game instead of virtual joysticks and slides/taps.
iAs mentioned earlier, you can make the game for any destination you prefer. Most people I believe are making for the iphone, but as you only have to submit a video to show the final game it does not matter which sort of game you make. idevice, mac, web ... what ever...
Since you don't have a mac/ios developer account. Why not make a GameSalad web game which is completely free, you could then even make your game available to play when you submit your entry?
Also I wouldn't suggest trying to make a game with 50+ levels in 3 weeks. Make something with less levels, or 1 never ending level. Something that can be achieved and done with a bit of polish too. The voting is done by the forum. So I would think the game with the best idea, graphics, delivery, polish will probably run home with all the prizes.
If someone can create a post with a link to all the current TOTB2 threads with the users name and game title if there is one that would be great. I keep meaning to do it, but not finding the time to do it throughly. Cheers Jon
I only have 5 days left Haven't done much.. I will give it a go, stuff it, time to put what i've learnt to the test. PS - I will post in the requested thread, but Happy The Polar bear is hibernating right now and won't make it in time.
Hoping to knock up a quick game based on the first ever GS game I made back in January 2010. Penguin Fish rain, you can probably see it if you look at my profile. I'll remake it from scratch if I do it with some proper animation.
Glad the competition has brought some great ideas and artwork (Nazi Penguins drawings are awesome) to the forum.
Also I think there are a couple of new entries other than those on the list posted by oberning above. I know Utopian Games has started work on Penguin Run with is Pseudo 3d effect.
Yeah, there are a lot more than what I have in that list... but I don't know how to edit my post, and I thought that it would be a waste of time and space to create a new post for every new game...
Just one question Stormy does the submision on april 2 needs to be a complete game? Coz right now i dont think i can finish all the levels i plan out. Maximum i can finish by that time is half of the level. The thing is i dont want to rush the levels just for the sake of finishing it coz i want it as polished as possible.
Drahc I'm pretty sure you wont be the only person to not finish a game. Just submit a video showing what you've achieved. But I guess the people that have a complete game or one that looks finished with the most polish have more chance of getting the most votes. But if your idea s awesome... who knows...
Should we post final video for submission here or in our own posts? Would be nice if everybody would post final videos (just final.. ) here, so we would see all of them together??
Invasion of Killer Robot Penguins Currently im working on iPad controls and extra enemys, but wont finish anything other than what i have now till the 2nd of april. After the controls i plan on starting all over again!! Ill start a new project and all the GS stuff again keeping things as optimised as possible.. this will probably take me a week or so, but i think it will be worth it since i learned some new things along the way.. Anyway, here is my entry:
To bad for me though coz i guess i have to full out of this competion. I dont have enough time to finish my game. I've been ask to do photoshoots in some of our completed projects so the extra time i alloted for GS had been consumed by this schedule. Currently this are the only things ive finished so far.
1. Working menu system (animated) 2. Open flow level selection 3. Working gameplay with parallax scrolling. 4. complete layout of area 1 (with 24 levels) 5. Half levels of area 2.... 6. working save & load progress of achievements.
and yes im one of those paranoid guyz who dont want to post any progress of incomplete games unless i've submitted it.... sigh.... to bad coz i treally believe my game has a shot at this... Good luck to everyone.
drahc: hmmmm.. i dont get you paranoid guys! ))) There is sooo much stuff out there that it's almost impossible to get original.. sooo, unless your doing something really really original i think its pointless to keep it to yourself.. showing your progress will get people excited about your upcoming game.. and if somebody sees what your doing and copies it, he wont do EXACTLY as you will, and probably he will not publish it in time you will.. So, its likely that your game will be out before the rippof.. But it doesnt matter whos game comes out first.. average appstore buyer couldnt care less who copied who, the only thing that matters is whos game is better.. So, at the end, when you keep your game a secret for 4 months, and you finaly publish it.. somebody sees it, makes a better copy of it in 1 week, publishes it.. its just gonna be your game against his (and 100 more similar game cause its hard to get original..) - which is better, which has more features, which has longer gameplay etc..
So, my final point is this.. keeping the game to yorself is a bad thing.. showing your progress will let people know what your doing and when to expect it etc.. the only thing you CAN do is make the best effort to make game as fun, as playable as you can and hope for the best (and have a good marketing strategy!)

or can it be a fully featured amazing one level? even if the level is short?
is this contest being judged by the game as a whole? or by how unique the game is and how much potential it has?
