Just found out Shadow Run has been copied, although art has been changed a little you can still see its a rip off of shadow run and too close for comfort.

It hasn't come from the template as we gave it away with no art/music so i think it must of been purchased and ripped.

Some people ehh???

Darren.

    Darren,

Do you have any recourse? We could all leave some negative feedback for the game. I don't appreciate people stealing.

I'm going to give it 1 star and a bad review now.

Unbelievable ... I mean come on, you've done the hard work for them, at minimum just change the freakin' graphics!

Darren, is it time to watermark graphics or a portion of them?

I wonder if you contacted Apple about it, would they do anything?

People think they're clever, does this dude REALLY think he'll make money of this?

Yea, I think you start watermarking your graphics, I know you typically include them, but it could ruin it for everyone else who buys the template if people are rushing to just submit your template as their work
  • AquariusAquarius Member Posts: 282
watermarking isnt going to help that much. ppl can just use photoshop and replicate it. i think u should just have NO ART.. just use blocks or circles....
  • UtopianGamesUtopianGames Member Posts: 5,692
No guys....I never sent any Shadow Run art out...the template was free and it all had blank actors...no art was included.

They must of purchased and ripped it.

Not sure if it is a GS game tbh....i dont even want to buy it to find out lol...but if it is we have a little thief on our hands and he could potentially do this to all our games...

The art is VERY similar but not an exact copy so what can ya do?

    Darren.

so its not a direct rip of your artwork? I can check if you wish?
  • superluzsuperluz Member Posts: 20
....maybe they have some kind of decompiler.
So the just replace the graphics recompile it and send it back to Apple with another name.
  • XpandemicXpandemic Member Posts: 157
    Yep its a GS game

Everybody should send this guy an email. Nothing nasty, just to let him know that a lot of people know what he did.

And if he did rip it, which would be illegal, there are a lot of people on Utopians side that are willing to testify!

How pitiful! I would report a concern....

    Darren,

    Are you aware of this?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Online_Copyright_Infringement_Liability_Limitation_Act#Takedown_example

You could send a takedown notice, but that is a little risky. You could be contested and sued for lost sales.

(You're in the UK, right? It might be different for you.)

I'm not a lawyer. But if I was in your situation, I'd likely be considering getting one. You're basically pro level now. It's part of the business. If I could prove infringement, I'd probably be preparing to sue them into oblivion.

Ok i bought both versions to compare and they're both pretty similar, 1 thing i did find copied was an image on both versions that have a similar name "canabalt_reworked_othergames"

so he could of ripped it and renamed/modified everything

But how did they get the original files???

Did they hack the Gs server????

I’m sure that each time we publish our games, GS makes a copy on the server.

Imagine having access to all those files…..that would be really scary….

idk probably a decompiler like you said

you can go into the app by right-clicking and selecting "show Package contents", though all the images are blanked out but you can still steal the sounds/music

I hate people like this. I mean, really? Do they REALLY think that thats cool? People like this are just born a**holes. How do you even find out about this? Like how did you come across it?

Looking on the app store daily for new releases

I almost wish that the GS team would help us out on this front. It definitely isn't good for brand image when users steal other users' games and try to pass them off as their own.

What a lovely post to wake up to...NOT! So sorry this happened to you Darren. If this EVER happens to me, I will definitely be looking into what legal action I could take. This sort of thing needs to stop. If these guys are hacking the GS server, GameSalad needs to do something about this. I hope you can get this settled Darren.

If it is a gs game, and if probably is, the gs team should revoke his publishing rights.

This is why gs never should have gone free, we didn't have these types of problems before

Darren StoneLoops! of Jurassica Pulled from App Store Due to Copyright Complaint from Luxor. And you can do the same think. You spend your time, effort and everything behind this game and its awesome. Nobody have right to stolen like this. I strongly suggest you to complain in apple.

If GS would just protect their damn servers better, we wound't have this problem at all!

I don't think this is a problem with the GameSalad servers.

This hs nothing to do with the gs servers, you can download any app of the app store and rip out the images. Takes 1 mouse click. The problem is that people are stealing other peoples work because it requires no investment of time or money to do so.
