If you're working on PC, remember to change the DPI form 96 to 72, so the graphics don't get blurry.

I do all my graphics on PC, the transfer it to my mac via Dropbox. Works great (and I don't have to worry about backup).

Gamesalad is more then worth it. YOu may not hit the big one on the app store but you can make a good living with it. But even though its no code its still a lot of work. I spend 14-16hrs a day on Gamesalad :)

    cheers

    Hey,

It's definitely an investment. But where will we get in life without a little risk? You've gota spend money to make money in anything. Starts at buying a simple uniform or printing out resumes.

In January I financed a MacBook Pro. $1500
Paid for the apple dev account. $99

I've had hours of Tshirt booths assistance $200+ maybe 3/400

I've bought loads of templates and other resources... I'm also in debt. But yeah spending $50 plus a week.
I could get a higher paying job, but my current one allows me to work on my Mac most days I'm working. It's fate!

I'm about to spend $500 on my pro account.
So close to $3,000. At the end of the day. It's only money - there is def profit to be made.

Anyway - you pretty much got your answers but I wanted to add my 2 cents.

Best of luck and welcome to the team.

I also do all of my graphics on my PC, but I do not need Dropbox.
Just a very simple wireless network does it all for me. Sharing the "GameSalad" folder between my PC and Mac. Even sharing my wireless printer, Canon MX 882.

So, I didn't yet get the final mail from Apple - and after 24 hours I wrote the support at Apples to ask if I would get it soon or if I overlooked something.

I haven't heard anything from them, and it's two days ago. Is this normal?

    Thanks :)

No probs and thank you! Not sure about the Apple thing :S

New Forum? Did you make that?
  • LykkeLykke Member Posts: 174
But how long did it take for the rest of you to get that mail? I did already get one mail - but I'm not sure that was the right one (The 'You Are Now Registered as an Apple Developer' mail). I just had the feeling I needed something else within 24 hours?

    And yes. Pm sent

Next time I join a forum I get a girly avatar.
    I haven't seen such a response to a newby yet ;)

Serious now. Welcome Lykke! I started with GS in January. And had my first little app in the store in a month. I am a graphic designer so macs, photoshop etc are no secret to me. I also draw cartoonish figured since I am a little kid.
Attempted my first game on a commodore 64 when I was 16 ;)
Anyway. GS has been nothing but fun. It does what I want almost all the time. And it's the fastest way to get it done.
I am on app 3 now. The second one took me the longest so far, about 2 months and the last one took 5 days. I am a perfectionist and tend to work on details a long time. For Kung Fu Finger I forced myself in this short timeframe just to see if I could do it. Now I am updating both games and planning to make Penny Shoel in Dutch and build a free app based on the Kung Fu Finger concept. The last one to see if I can boost sales. I do not sell much yet and that is why I am not on pro. Sorry for the long story. I like to talk about this because I am so euforic of GS ;)

One last word. Try not to overthink things. Use your gut feeling.
I gave been an enerpreneur for over 10 years and found that the best decisions are made by the heart.
And as said here before. Money makes money so let it role.

    Cheers!

haha this is not a 'girlie avatar' this is me (a few years old picture, but still) - but thanks for the nice welcome :)

Everything I do, I do from my heart, intuition and with best intentions, no doubt about it. That doesn't mean it's the wisest things to do always, but I know for sure I can be 100% honest about it.

I know I have to be more selective in what I wish to create with GS - I listed up all my ideas, and they keep coming lol - but I also know I have limits (time) because of full time job, running several forums in my spare time, creating an online/printed game magazine, having 2 kids, house, husband ... chinchilla :P

So yes, I am perhaps overthinking, but I need to order things not to feel stressed about what to do and start with. I am already on my second project with GS - the first one had some issues I could not fix 'like that' so I started another project which goes better - not to talk about the forum I created 2 days ago lol!

SO ... :) Now I only need the money you mention, to get the money rolling haha :P (jk)

    (actually I'm not kidding :P)

I'm am lucky to have a lot of time.
I work from my home so my Beagle gets enough attention, my son is 21 and helps me with organizing stuff in Photoshop (making groups and organizing layers and such things).
I have still more ideas then time.
I have a concept in my head that might take me a year to build now so I delay it until I have a strong organized workflow.
I also have 3 games started and waiting. (Just conceptual, no graphic just actors doing something).

No money either, I am selling my car at the moment (oh wait, perhaps I shouldn't have taken my second car, the vw bug, apart for restoration).

I am of your age btw. Isn't it fun to still be doing this crazy stuff while others are couch potatoes? Hehe!

aww give me some of your free hours lol? I could really use them!

I always said, that being creative and keep playing, keeps you young ;) Remember that age is only a number on a piece of paper - it's how you feel like that matters.

And yeps - what would life be like if we couldn't do silly things (boring) ^_^

Oh, btw, if you have a couple of spare hours - I would really appriciate some help testing the forum :) Since I made the design and colors etc. I'm not sure if it works like it should on all forums, in profile, pm's etc. I also wish to put in more modules etc. but it takes time to create - so if there's some special needs or missing features, I would love to know (not to waste time). And I could really need a hand with that from experienced people. thanks

I have only been using GameSalad for about 3 months now. I know how to program, but this just speeds up the process. With one app, and without GS Pro, I've had thousands of downloads and earned what's soon to be in the thousands. With my only investment as the Apple Dev Fee and some sound effects costs. So I say if you are an intelligent designer, you'll do just fine.

That's awesome to hear :) When I said 'worth it' I actually more meant if the programe was so good I should invest a mac in it. Not whether I would earn a LOT of money lol. Main for me is to have fun and tbh - at this moment I have LOTS of fun. If it's worth it is of course difficult to say. I know that depends on the individual. I was more interested in hearing how far others got - and I got some great responses on that.

    Thanks :)
