Has anyone used Synfig? I want to try it, but I can't figure out how to download it on a mac. Anyone had any experience here?

I use a combination of Anime Studio (which for the most part is vector), Photoshop and After Effects. At least for all my 2D character stuff anyway.

i wondered if you were the Quinn i knew in college so i read your page... no, but you worked puppets on Return of The Jedi, and Labyrinth (which character, btw?)?? so what are you doing out here among us mortals? ;-)

answering the survey, Id vote for after effects over flash, because we ultimately have to convert to pixels anyway.
(though it would be great to allow vector and quick time input to GS at some time.
the "puppet mode" (wink) since version CS4 sort of absorbs the functionality of Anime Studio

Haha I love labyrinth, great film.

I use photoshop and illustrator primarily, I do use anime studio too but I'm really not a fan of the interface, it feels a decade older than anything by adobe. Pretty good software though, I'm just not keen on the interface.

I have a confession. I voted for flash, but just made a running animation in photoshop

anyone serious about animating should have a look at Blender. We don't use it here, because we have commercial 3d and fx packages, but having had a look at it myself, it looks to have a very complete toolset and is free. There are also many video tutorials online to assist you with the mammoth learning curve.
