I'm not sure if this is best practice but as for the lazer, I used some in my recent game. I basically created a bright colored line in my image editor and created a very long and thin PNG. I spawned this actor and added a lazer sound when the actor "collided" with the background image. Then I told the actors in the scene to destroy when touching the lazer.
Thanks Persian & Grub. Actually I plan to change the lasers on the next update thanks for the suggestion. The apps was submitted last week and still waiting for apple's approval. I hope it will get approve by monday.
