Why Aren't Push Notifications On The Roadmap?

As the title says, Why Aren't Push Notifications On The Roadmap? To not be accomplished even late this year?

ESPECIALLY WITH iOS 5 Coming, this is very important.

Damn, this is a big one!!! To constantly bring persons back to your game! Move over IAP!

    +1

EDT: Actually, for the game I'm planning relies on IAP & Push notifications. Just my luck x)

I would imagine because games are not generally going to use push and the focus of gamesalads priorities are what's best for games. Push notifications would also require some sort of access to an outside server to push the information from I would think.

Oh and again with the skewed poll question. You gave no option for don't care about this feature.
I voted to take IAP out just to piss people off. :)

Push Notifications are included in iOS Device Features.
  • RedlerTechRedlerTech Member Posts: 1,583
@Tenrdrmer actually all the push notifications are don't through iTunes Connect. It is really important for some games actually. EXAMPLE: The games that have stores and you use the iPhone clock to determine at a random time your game will have a sale on an item & you send a push notification :D It can be very useful in some cases. I have a big project in mind that is dependent on notifications & in app purchases.

So what your saying is you need IAP first? Hmm glad you are look if to knock evenen more game improving features so you can annoy the hell out of your customers with notifications to spend money.

it's true that IAP is somewhat important if you want to use notification to do anything... also server side access like tenrdrmer said.... the fact is that Gamesalad is always going to be a step behind coding can't be ignored... so yes it'd be nice to have all these features.. but until GS becomes ultra popular and apple is willing to bend over backwards to give out details before new IOS is released... chances are we'll always be a step behind... nothing wrong with that though... there are companies that's always at the fore front, and there are also companies that waits until others succeed and fail and counter attack.

push notifications are a gimmick and annoying. i see no reason why these should be included over anything else on that list.
  • RedlerTechRedlerTech Member Posts: 1,583
They are important. Maybe not in your case which is understandable but in others it is needed.

I would love to Have all features, But I want the most, is improve memory, loading time, and In App Purchase, that would be great for my stuff.
  • RedlerTechRedlerTech Member Posts: 1,583
I really need in app purchasing, the ability to have an app run in the background, iOS Clock, push notifications, Facebook integration & multiplayer.

I know this is crazy, but I have a BIG project, & having these features are necessary.

I second MagoNicolas, and honestly I turn off most of my push notifications because they get so annoying.

Not really, I can absolutely wait for GameSalad to develop these.

you just contradicted yourself, seeing as your the one who started this thread ;) Theres tons of us that have projects waiting for other features, just put them on the backburner and focus on other ones till they release the features, or you can code it

tenr............ im not pointing this directly at you. But your statement like many others make it sound like its a sin to want to make money off games a person has created. Are you totally against micro/macro transactions? What specific feature on the roadmap will it take to be released for you to stop being such a critic toward other peoples idea and opinions. I think we all should, instead of calling someones idea idiotic or stupid. We should say " Hey not a bad idea.. it might work.. but I personally am hopping this feature ( input feature) gets released soon. And maybe explain why your waiting on that paticular feature or why you feel its most important. You never know... your idea might soak in and help others see things the way you do. When I say "YOU" I mean all of us in the forums. Lets stop knocking other peoples ideas or feature requests.

What hes totally against is having stuff like push notifactiosn and iap put in front of tables, arrays, polygon collosions, and stuff like that. As we all should
  • CaptFinnCaptFinn Member Posts: 1,828
I agree with that.. I think those things should be released first as well. But I dont take every opportunity to trash some one here who sees things differently. Maybe they have no idea the importance of tables, arrays, and polygon collisions. If they did.. the would probably retract and say " screw iAP and PN" for now... give us our arrays. Like i said earlier.. we are all scared if the feature we want so bad isnt release first. That it might get put at the bottom of the list and never get done.
  • RedlerTechRedlerTech Member Posts: 1,583
What exactly is tables & arrays?

Sounds to me like you need to investigate another tool or API. The phrase "Use the right tool for the right job" comes to mind.
  • CaptFinnCaptFinn Member Posts: 1,828
Instead of telling them their idea is stupid. We should explain it to them this way. " All big hit games that have iap purchasing and push notifications first had really well made and polished games. Not vice versa. We feel that the features that will most benefit us in polishing our games game play and usability will best help us. Then we can move on to the dressings like in app purchasing and push notifications. lets first build a beautiful game they will " want " to play. Then we will notify them of that new gun for sale using push notifications.

Tables, arrays, polygons etc etc. are tools that will polish our games and also spark new ideas on how to make different types of game.

IAP- PN etc etc are dressings.... the proverbial cherry on top, so to speak.

Lets not knockem down... lets get them on board. Thats my point.

Sure I may seem harsh ass hell and like I'm cutting people down but I just sick of the WE NEED THIS NOW crap. It's one right after the other and none of it ever enough for these guys. GameSalad has finnaly made their main plan public after asking and surveying the community. So quit complaining and let them make some of thier plans happen. And if it's so important that anyone have an unavailable feature then they need to learn to code. I'm also sick of people acting like GameSalad is intentionally with holding features from us. It's completly obsurd

When did anyone in this particular thread say this? I do agree in other threads some people are moaning as if they will die tomorrow without them but I think people should be able to express their views on features which aren't even mentioned on the roadmap. I personally feel the main thing GameSalad should be is working on reducing memory and freeing up memory to make spawning easier etc.

    Cheers.

I don't think it's people think they're withholding features. They underestimate how hard programming is and how long it takes to add features, people seem to think it's magic. Which is ironic if you think about it.

People come to GameSalad because they don't know how to program. Why? Because programming is hard.

Then they demand features that they wanted yesterday and get mad or upset when it takes too long to deliver on features.

Programming is hard, there is a reason why we GS users don't want to do it. Therefore we should realize that features are going to take a while to get implemented because... programming is hard and takes some time to implement.
