When looking at Apple computers, what are the minimum specs needed to work with GameSalad and develop an iPhone game?

Thanks. So if I looked at an older computer, as long as it runs Snow Leopard it will work with GameSalad?

Yes. As long as it's an Intel processor, running Snow Leopard, it will run it.

You might want to look at getting something with an Intel Core 2 duo processor and 2GB RAM so it can run Lion for a bit of future proofing. Mine doesn't have the processor or the RAM and it's a concern that Gamesalad will move on and I'll not be able to keep up beyond Snow Leopard.

I will say I had a macbook pro and things worked amazing!
But the logic board went on it so I had to downgrade to a white macbook. If you are thinking about using one of those it's fine, but the sound effects wont play on preview or within gamesalad on a white macbook.

Not exactly sure why, but Yodapollo confirmed this after the last update.

Also if you want to use 3d models and export them for any of your graphics, the graphics card cannot handle 3d use from within any adobe products, on a white cased macbook. So I assume the same would be for maya, 3d studio etc.

If I were you I would go for any aluminum unibody models. Gamesalad works amazing on those.

GameSalad is not going to Drop SnowLeopard any time soon. They Stopped supporting Leopard because some changes made Required things only snow leopard had and I think part of that was Xcode now requires you to have snow leopard.

I would not upgrade to lion just out of fear of losing GameSalad. I would however upgrade to Lion the first chance I get due to the incredibly cheap upgrade.

It is so cheap 29.99 on Mac App Store and it can be installed on 10 macs. If you want to make a virtual server you can $49.99 for the server edition. I am part of apples internal testing program and have been using lion for the past 18 months. It is worth the upgrade. Plus if you are part of mac developer program the GM Seed is not the same one that will come out but if you wait for it to come out the day it does the version for developers will match so you can get it for free.

Thanks for the responses I still have not bought anything. I am looking at the computer listed below (2006, used $450). would this work am I better off just buying a new one? I was looking at used because I am not sure how good I will be with GameSalad.

Apple Macbook 13", Black, 80GB, 2 GHz Intel 2 Duo, 1 Gg Ram, iSight, Snow Leopard

That will work. You could get the Mac mini for a little bit more, and I would do that if you have the money. But, you need to already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc... if you buy a Mac mini. Otherwise, you will need to buy those as well.

Thanks.....I promise this is the last question.

Would this be a good choice?

    $350

This Mac Mini is the older style from early 2007. It has a 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB RAM, a 500 GB hard drive. It has a standard DVD/CD-RW drive, but let's be honest - who uses optical media these days anyway? It includes all cables, apple remote, even the original packaging. It currently has Snow Leopard installed, but the recovery media is either Leopard or Tiger. I can also install Lion, although there will be no media available for that operating system. It functions perfectly, I have never had any problems with it. Runs quiet and cool.

That's the same type of Mac Mini I gave to my mate Jake so he could make games with GameSalad - it runs fine!

I *may* have put in 4GB of memory, I can't remember though!

    QS :D

I'm working on this Mac Mini http://i.piccy.info/i5/91/82/1798291/min.jpg
I could say it is a minimum. I mean, you could work on it, but it does not work smooth. I have bought it for Game Salad, and if I know it would work like this then, I would buy something more powerful.
