Yeah, thats kinda how I think it should work. you would click the icon, and drag out a white icon onto the screen. I've noticed those windows have strangely become grossly strotched...
it's quite annoying to have things pop up (float) everywhere. i like how most programs have them docked to top/left/right and allows you to pull them off as desired, with any creative program, the content is king, you don't want anything floating around because your design is always changing. and any visual elements (such as floating boxes) will mess up your canvas, just as you don't put anything on your "real canvas" when you are working on a oil painting, having things organized neatly on screen is a must. that being said there are some great ideas that you guys came up with, it reminds me of Maya and the likes, where you can have a preview window of your final out-put. If i was to design the GUI interface for GS, i'd replicate the interface of Aftereffects+Flash+some other 3D program of choice. simply to position GS so that Adobe can buy it out of the box later, can you imagine if Adobe buys them, how much money they'd make? and how big the user group would become? Anyway, just my humble 2 cent.
@ultima ya i like the way you can just pull windows off too. It was my insight to have an external preview player because this allows you to have a bigger preview are a like after effects and a cleaner interface... I appreciate your humble 2 cents, Thanks, Jack

there are definitely some design issues left to be desired but you prob should keep in mind not every one has 27" or even 21" screens
Perfect Example is many of us use a 13" MB, MBP, MBA And I would not doubt theres even some users who are prob on the 11" MBA I would like to see everything dock-able with an auto update Attributes Window that shows the selected instance attributes. That along would save me hours on end. And in the scene home screen the same type of dock able window that just auto updates all the scene attributes so I can change values or add attributes to every single scene. without actually loading the scenes.
@dantuma , thats some great work! Really like the pixelmator style layout which would be a great improvement! Out of interest are you a professional graphics designer? Personally I can handle the creator fine and have no issue with its layout and would much prefer new features first. Having said that with 1.0 coming soon that would certainly seem like a good point to change the UI. Keep up the good work!
@Bright-Spark-Games Gee thanks dude! Always nice to get recognition for work. No, I'm not actually a pro graphics designer (aspiring one though), just very interested in the digital arts, and I've always wanted to make games. I also agree that a competitive UI will help draw even more attention to GameSalad.
@LeonardDeveloper "I was thinking some ideas the other day. Look at Pixelmator, and how you use panels for your tools. One clean window is your canvas."
@dantuma I also love digital art, just picked up pixelmator the other day as I really wanted to try and learn some artistic styles, starting with pixel art Do you for hire work as I kinda wanna create something like an info graph or something bright to sell my next app!
I've been working on the last shot, and decided to go extra deep and edit the icons to be more "pixel perfect". I also slightly updated the style of the drop down box, and added a very subtle fabric texture.
This is the latest screenshot of a proposed alternate scene editor for GameSalad. It uses the idea that, instead of having all your resources cramped in one window, you can customize your workspace with panels, movable translucent windows that house your stuff. It is inspired by Pixelmator. Pixelmator won an Apple design award. View the full size.

Like people have said earlier, I think it is a good idea to remember that GS is still in beta. They do a whole lot to keep us all as happy as possible, this is a neat thread, but lets not over do it.
The screen shots remind me of Pixelmator, I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
@braydon_sfx I understand that, but this is a "suggestion" thread were not forcing gs to do anything, they have a redesign in the roadmap, we're just suggesting ways to make the redesign more "pretty" @rd looking good!, I see you like my pixel mayor "apple design" awards idea!, I'm working on a pretty good stereo type in maya & photoshop..... I'll have it up soon!
Just an idea to improve the idea of panels, I thought that what you guys where saying made sense. Having panels everywhere would end up as a nightmare for concentrating. So, Instead of having 13 panels for 13 functions, how about 2 panels with 5 tabs? Having tabs to organize everything can surely help focus users a bit more. I personally was overwhelmed with each sliding layer currently above the creator when I first started using GS.

Are you still there?

Ya that would work great!,
What other GUI features could we include in this... I'm looking at some of the apple design award winners!
I appreciate your humble 2 cents,
Thanks,
Jack

I see what you mean....
Do you like our design ideas anyway?
Keep up the good work!
And i get no thanks!!! I came up with the pop out window pixelmator style interface idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(That was a joke...)

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking, could explain your question a bit more clearly?
