I tried a PM but I am a bit confused. DBA released trailers of upcoming templates 4 tiumes within the last month. I tried releasing a video in no way mentioning templates of any kind, while I look at double dragon thread as well and angry birds, and both clearly state they are templates.

Both of those threads are still open while mine was closed after 2 minutes.

So we are not going to see any more dba templates pre-launch in the forums then?

I just watched things go back and forth for two days and thought that the rules reverted back to fridays rules. Within which DBA released video of upcoming templates. several times.

So what are the official rules?

i see. I just assumed because I provided no links or prices or mention of a template, that it would be okay. As I have seen it done in the past.
    thanks for the response though.

Why would Jayleedesigns post be deleted when it doesn't say anywhere in it about selling? Man this forum needs some serious guidelines, I would like to hear why his would be closed or see some clarification that the sou chefs must follow so they don't just get to close any forum post they deem necessary.

@ jaylee sorry i stepped out for a minute, sss answered for me though.

    @ Einstein apps

We have guidlines to follow, advertising templates of any kind are not aloud on the forum again as sss stated above. Obvisouly im not gonna just go closing a thread of an assumption, but it said in his video it was a template.

Regarding dba, it indeed became a template. So if that occurs again his post will be closed as well, also the ones he just made that you referred to will be closed. There shouldn't be any breaking of the rules just because someones a sous chef. Everything should be fair across the board.

    thanks for understanding,

    cheers

Interesting, so the rules say if the word template is used the thread gets killed? Also SSS said unless they are free, how did you know this wouldn't be free when he finished?
  • JohnPapiomitisJohnPapiomitis Member Posts: 6,256
Again, any template advertising on the forum is not aloud, unless its stated its free. If it was gonna be a free template, he would have stated it, not posted a video stating gameplay but having template in the menu.

    cheers

So should the rules be amended again to state if the word "Free" is not used then it will be deleted? I mean seriously where do you draw the line, I reread the rules and can't see how that violated them. You are assuming something and using censorship as a result in my opinion.

@ SSS - was he correct to close it and we are now under martial law where moderators decide what the intent of every post that contains the word "template" is?

Im not gonna sit here and argue with you, it seems like your just trying to start trouble.

Jaylee already admitted it was gonna be a template for sale. Jaylee sells templates, he stated it was a gameplay video but it had template in the title of the menu, so it was apparent what he was doing. He even admitted it. If i was wrong i would have been the first to admit it, reopen it, and apologized to him, no harm done. If you feel like ive done something wrong please contact the guys at gamesalad. But im sure if sss felt i was wrong in closing it, he would have reopened it and stated that, instead of posting why i closed it and the rule i was following.

I didn't see where he said that at all, so if he did sorry I missed it? And if stirring up trouble is defined as clarifying the rules then you are right. I am paying professional member and as such I will ask anytime I feel I need clarification, especially when I am not understanding a rule enforcement. If this is something that bothers you maybe you should reevaluate your own moderator privileges.

I would like to see correct grammar and puncutation used by the moderators as I think you are a direct reflection of Gamesalad and the product I purchased, that is something I would be inclined to ask them about.

    @EinsteinApps

John is not being arbitrary … the Rules state only Free templates … John closed the thread because the poster did not state it would be Free!
He is not judging the intent … he is judging the content!
He is doing a good job in protecting you and me and all other forum members from assuming that a template will be free because it is promoted here.

JayLeeDesigns is attempting to try to work around the new rules by promoting a template he developing and not letting us know that if it will be free or fee.
to get his thread re-activated, he only has to state that the template is free … as most users will state when they offer you a free template.

and think that is implicit in the newRules … let the user know it is free or the thread will be closed

Thanks for the feedback. I am in no way upset about any of this. I just was unclear on what was happening. I was merely following suit in terms of what I had seen elsewhere on the forums.
Doing so being restricted is fine by me I just missed the whole weekend escapades i suppose.

Now my next question: I saw in previous weeks that people were posting their templates in their signatures. Is this also banned?

@ TSB - I am sorry, could you show me were that post violated this policy?

"Announcing a new template you created for sale - (amended) After gauging community feedback on this point, announcing templates for sale is no longer allowed. Free templates can still be announced, as in the first point. Note that announcing your latest game/app does not fall under this rule."

He doesn't list a website or price, or mention selling it. My point about mentioning I am a paid member is that I am supporting this software and as such take understanding the rules very seriously. As for the grammar and punctuation, I will address it offline in my feedback to Gamesalad with some examples that I would like to point out. Just because you aren't paid doesn't mean you shouldn't have to conduct your self professionally, as I am sure that is a given. New members come here and see moderators using broken english and terrible grammar and I am sure they will be less inclined to invest in the product.

And yes I am a little touchy about all of this because I hate when rules are changed, then changed again, then changed again. I personally like the template ads and believe they are good for up and coming developers, so thats the stance I choose to represent here.

thanks alot. I'm not looking to stir the pot just want to know the proper things to do.
Where can I start with submitting templates to the official marketplace? I sort of missed the boat on that.

@ TSB I just didn't see that it had to say free in the rules, so I would ask that it explicably says that if threads get closed as they don't technically break a rule. I think I have stated pretty redundantly in the past that without the ability to sell templates on this forum you would have never experienced the success you now enjoy, so pardon me if I am jaded by your involvement. I am not saying your work doesn't merit success, I just think it's a bit strange that you personally started the thread the other day that led to this whole rewrite of the rules yet again. Kind of reminds me of big oil companies lobbying to kill the little guys so they could maintain their monopoly.

I know it must feel strange having someone speak up, but I like to study the rules and stand up for them when I think my opinion is needed.
