A group of us watching Indie Game: The Movie last night after work and we loved it! We also recorded a GameHunks podcast episode about it today. Can't wait to share more thoughts with you soon.
I saw this like a month ago. It was fantastic. I'd suggest everybody watches it. If it doesn't come to your town, I'm pretty sure you can download it from Steam now. I loved that movie. I also loved Tetris Masters: Ecstasy of Order. That one was just 2 1/2 hours of people playing Tetris and talking about Tetris. The perfect movie formula.
Oh! We're doing 1 word reviews? Umm... Um... For lack of a good Bushism, I'll say "stressful". It really showed the stress and anxiety associated with releasing a game.
I would say under the circumstances especially in the case of the developer of FEZ they are handling themselves pretty well.
One of my favorite parts about the movie is during the PAX expo there is a legal issue that might prevent the developer of FEZ from showing and there is quite a candid interview with him when he gets the news. He says "I'm afraid that I will see him, I will, just, murder him, and our team will get in trouble and, we wont be able to show our game.." Atleast he is keeping track of whats really important!
The only thing I didnt really like is that this movie chronicles the tale of very high profile indie developments (these games have FUNDING!) and so it is an unfair comparison to the majority of us. Although that is nothing wrong with the movie and just my own personal bias. Great movie though guys! definitely check it out!
I'm glad all the hardwork paid off for those guys...they deserve it The movie really opened my eyes to the world of big game pc/console development and just how hard it is for one or two guys to do. It made me glad that I'm in mobile and fast development is possible..and the money can be decent. Maybe not millions but i can persue my other life too.Right now I'm finding a perfect balance of making games and doing music (live band/composing/studio). I just don't think I could make huge games like those guys do and that's ok.
I love the fact that those guys are a bit weird. I can relate with them and it's a bit relieving to see that creative guys are a bit weird and it's ok, cause I'm sure some people can say this about me.

I would argue that you need *something* different about you to create great art.
It's the old Bill Hicks argument about Jimi Hendrix vs. New Kids on the block!
Great movie, but I could have done a little less with the drama and more insight into the game making process. Still, a well made documentary offering a peak into the high stakes game of indie development.

Anyone else seen it recently? What's your "one word review" for the film (more than one word is okay too)?

You can symapthise with what they go through and the sacrifices they make..... but they show you it's worth all the hard work in the end.
It wasn't much of a surprise when Phil said he would kill himself if Fez didn't happen.

Shadows Peak is an atmospheric psychological horror that explores the dark side of a player.
