Fluent english to german, french, italian and spanish required

Hi guys, only me! (If my new avatar is showing up... ;-) ) Edit: it's not showing, I wonder why not? Anyhow...

I've been working on my second app - a utility for the iPhone - and it should be ready to fire in about three weeks or so. It includes approx. 8 short phrases and - at a guesstimate - 200 words at most. The app user can choose to use english, italian, spanish, german or french. (I'll be posting more details about the app in about a week, if you're interested to see).

Anyhow, I've been using one or more of the free translation services on the web to translate the english words (almost all nouns) into those other four languages.

What I'd ideally like is for the translations to be double-checked before the binary is uploaded. So I'm seeking 4 people to check the translation list of their appropriate native language, i.e english to french, english to german, english to italian and english to spanish.

I'd like to offer $15 each for this; I think that's fair, as I reckon it'd take no more than ten minutes or less to check down a list of 200 or so words if you are fluent in english and one of the other languages. (I'd pay via Paypal). (If anyone thinks I'd be underpaying please let me know and let me know why; I like to be fair).

Please post on this thread if you are interested, and it'll be first-come, first served, if that's OK, thanks.

Oh, forgot to mention, the final listings won't be ready for about another week...

If you fail to turn up a native French speaker, I can likely help you with the French. I have studied French since 1995. I minored in French in college (2004) and I have kept up my comprehension skills by regularly reading French news and occasionally watching French programming.

THanks for the link, @RacetotheMoon, by using their Bronze service, it doesn't work out much more expensive than what I'm offering to pay. i'll seriously consider that as an option.

Still though, if any GS user forum members wants to earn a quick $15, let me know ! :-)

@jimmyyellinger Hi Jim, thanks for the email. I'll reply some time today and sent the file over to you before a week is out. (french)

@mm34125 - thank you but unfortunately you were pipped to the post... I had an email this morning - dated 7.30 am - offering the checking of the german words. So sorry but thank you for the offer. :-) (german)

@LeonardDeveloper Hey there, Jack, thanks as well for your email! French is covered but it'd be great if you could check the spanish, thanks! Again, I'll email back to you some time today, and email the list when it's ready before a week from today is up. (P.S i've been calling you Leonard - I forgot that your first name is Jack - although you never corrected me ;-) (spanish)

@MarkOnTheIron Good stuff, thank you Mark, so that's italian covered. I'll email you as well today. And also send you the list within a week. (italian)

@Rupas hi, Rupas, sorry but @LeonardDeveloper wrote and emailed me first about spanish word checking. Thank you for offering though. :-)

@capitalcarnage Hi CC, hey, terrific stuff when I do the next version; it'll cover oop North, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and... Bristol... ;-)

@LudwigHeijden Hi Ludwig - aah, so sorry! No offence meant!! Funnily enough, I did include Dutch originally, along with at least another 3 languages but I thought it was too much... as for dutch, I did think that the vast majority of Dutch people speak english... don't know if I'm right there....

For interest, Susan and I visited Amsterdam for the first time about 3 or 4 years ago and loved it! A great atmosphere there; and spookily, the moment I left the airport terminal I felt as though I'd been there before and everything seemed natural and familiar.... perhaps I was a Dutchman in a previous life.....

    Hi @patapple

Thank you but I've got all the translation checkers I need now. Sorry, but cheers. :-)

    Hi @MH

I'll certainly bear you in mind when I develop an alternative version of the app! Pittsburghese: great accent to my English (UK) ear. :-) And thanks for the links; the lecture was particularly interesting, I thought.

CRIKEY! No love for the Aussie slang ;)
  • gyroscopegyroscope I am here.Member, Sous Chef, PRO Posts: 6,598
Crikey, no worries me old cobber; my Sheila wants a taste of down under but as bonze as that is, I reckon 24 hours in the old metal bird would make me bushed - even cactus as as a bluey down a mineshaft, or worse, a wallaby knackered in a billabong without a sanger. :-)

Right, time I was off for me pommy shower...

    Heehee!
