I think that was an image, not sure. I un-ticked the illustrations box. Anyway Im of to bed now, school tomorrow and its 1:03 now. Mums going to kill me :P
I know for certain of a few apps in the top ten that have spent more than 10k per day on just pay per click adds.
I think you can make pretty good money and then there are even success stories like hunn's. But once you get in the top spots those guys spend some big money.
It is risky though and more of a chance at long term growth Alot of people want to spend 5k and immediatly get 7k back but really it's more about buying a spot on that list. Shoving it up the flag pole to see if anyone solutes.
Kind off subject but yeah. Alot of top apps spend a crap load on marketing.
But then again if you have a multiple million dollar product what few k per day
I know money's a great motivator, but don't forget the passion part. I've been an entrepreneur for a couple of years now (really not that many) and what I keep hearing from business mentors that really care about what I do is that I need to really care about what I do beyond just raking it in. That spirit is what will sustain you thru the lonely, dry and low periods.
And having great support from family, friends and communities like this go a very, very long way.
Although passion can leave you broke and sleeping on someone els's couch, Just ask 99 out of 100 musicians.
While this is my only job (background is on my webpage) I am not going to even make a move on the business side of things until I feel I have a great game thus backing up the whole passion statement from ScMu. For now ill just keep plunking out little games while i learn (how many things are actually fun even in the learning process)! Although i keep working on my main project off and on and i am getting more and more excited. I think i have easily logged 100+ hours into the menu graphics lol.
However I do my research so that when i'm ready ill have some idea how it works at least.
@iDeveloperz Hey there, it seems to me you might be looking for a graphics partner... I am kind of in your boat right now, Im also in high school, except I'm a junior so you have a head start on me... I'd just take a % of your profit, so paying first wouldn't be necessary... I'm not the best person in the world, but I am cheap... I'm currently taking a graphics class at my school and I will continue taking more... I'm rather proficient with illustrator, so I can make you quality vector images.... I'm going to release my own game this week, with all of the images vector drawn by me... I rather excel in stealing images, so if you just point me to an image you want, I'll make you my version of it... If you would like me to demonstrate my capability, point me to an image you want, like, say the earth one from istock... I'll send you one for free... You can keep it, use it for whatever you wish.... Let me know if you interested...
How do you search just "images" In istockphoto? I only see options for vector illustrations, video, etc, do you type it in the search, or go to advance search?
Also, for all vector illustrations, can you order the xsmall version for a lower price?
no option on the homepage... but once inside the site, next to the search keyword box...there are checkboxes. Uncheck everything but photos (aka images).
There are some other cool search options in advanced search...such as image orientation and search by color.
RE: vector illustrations... There is no such thing as a smaller size...hence "VECTOR". When scaled...the resolution remains the same. This is the difference between vector and raster images. Raster images...when scaled UP...do not increase in resolution where vector images do...because the colors are indexed. This is why they are more expensive on iStock...they will work at ANY resolution...whether on a coffee mug or on a GIANT billboard in Times Square.
This is also the difference between PNGs and Jpegs. PNGs are vector based and are the same resolution no matter what image size. ie: a 30 x 30 vector image scaled up to 300x300 will look the same...albeit more "box-like"...where a jpeg will become blurred.
Thanks Synthesis, that's some great information, I remember hearing about Vector images awhile back and forgot that once scaled down, they look the same
Just to clarify, PNGs are NOT vector-based. You cannot scale them like vectors. They are bitmap images that also allow for transparency - unlike a jpeg. They were created to replace GIFs, which (used to) have a patent on them.
If you use Adobe Fireworks, you can also inject different metadata into them, but you cannot use this metadata within GameSalad. There is a web utility to shrink the size of your PNG graphics: http://www.gracepointafterfive.com/punypng
I'm not sure, but I believe that utility is just stripping out the metadata.
My bad...I was under the belief that PNG had a lossless effect when scaling (similar to GIFs) and behaves in a vector based fashion. You're right FMG that they are not "pure" vector images...but I was under the impression that they "behaved" much like a vector image.

My point is...search images...not illustrations.
You don't need vector graphics...too big anyway. They are generally used in print and GIANT media.
Stick with low-res jpeg images...they are cheap and plentiful.
Night guys. Thanks for all of your help tonight.
done
lol
probably what cupcake brosephus did
And design a really good icon?
that one is huge

I stand corrected.
