Selling on Marketplace - lots of questions!...

Hi, maybe this info is out there somewhere but I've been unable to find it - and the 'Marketplace Assets and Submissions' thread doesn't explain much about how things work.

I'm hoping to submit a template for sale on GS marketplace - and have a few questions:

1) Does GS host the marketplace files, and deal with sales transactions?
2) Does GS take a commission for sales, and what percentage of the sale is this?
3) If GS handles transactions, how do we get paid?
4) How do we set the price of our templates?
5) Can a marketplace seller monitor their assets and see if there have been any sales?

Cheers in advance

    1. Yes

    2. Yes GS takes 30%

    3. Once sales are over $100.00 or monthly. Paid via paypal Net 30

    4. That is your discretion, there is a minimum. Check the current template prices for reference pertaining to your own pricing model.

    5. Yes you are given a sales report after each month.

The rest of what you need it here:

    1) Yes, GS hosts all the Marketplace assets and handles the tranactions.
    2) Yes, 30%.
    3) They send you a monthly report with any sales, and pay you when your balance is in excess of $100.
    4) 'Sup to you. Compare it to existing Marketplace assets and set a reasonable price.
    5) Nope, not at present.

To clarify #5: You get a sales report at the end of the month by email, but there is no live report of your sales on a daily basis that you can view online.

    Cheers guys, all questions answered!

    One more question:
Have you guys found producing assests/templates etc for the marketplace a profitable alternative to working on your own games?... just wondering what sort of interest/traffic the marketplace actually gets.

    Thanks!

I make graphic assets in conjunction to the games I am designing/sell on the App store.
The more stuff you have out there, the better. The marketplace does get a decent amount of traffic, it really depends on what you are selling and the quality of the work (aim for unique stuff that you can't find on the marketplace and you will have your own niche).

@janmie_c yes, thanks for clarifying. No live and/or online reports (hopefully we may see a change in the future, but certainly nothing business critical).

Thanks again guys. So, just a couple more for you....

Are you guys just emailing a zipped file of your assets to the marketplace submissions email address?

Also, at what point do you provide the product description that will be displayed in the marketplace, a youtube video link and your asset/template screenshots??

Maybe it's just me but the guidelines for this process do seem a little vague...

    Cheers

You have to send a sample of your work first to become a seller. Then you get all the details.
I believe the mail adres is in the link above.

Yes, zip the contents when you send them. Inside your zip file you will have your assets along with the product/item descriptions and SKUs inserted on a CSV, Numbers or Excel doc. This will be the standard method when submitting assets to the marketplace.

All this information will be provided to you once you have been accepted to the marketplace. You still need to get past step one. ;)

Any other advertising or announcements about your assets Youtube etc. are handled by you, but keep in mind the advertising rule and guidelines found here in the forums. GameSalad will handle inserting the new assets onto their dedicated page on the marketplace. The descriptions that you provide in the product description will reflect upon how they appear on the marketplace page. Be sure to describe your asset/s, templates etc. in detail there.

If you decide to email the marketplace something - You need to hold your breath for for awhile - Been waiting for 5 weeks for an update and 3 weeks to add new content

That does not sound normal. Turn around times to marketplace placement have been within days for myself. I just submitted a new pack yesterday. We'll see what the transpires. Have you asked for a status update since then?

I think the delay would be more understandable if the communication was better. I understand Regina left but they are a good month behind now, not sure how they are going to catch up.

    Tagging a question here;
so if i were to advertise a product for 1 dollar.
    apple wants 30cents
    that leaves 70 cents
    then gamesalad wants 30cents too.
that leaves me with 40 cents only?

    is this correct?
  • BazookaTimeBazookaTime Member Posts: 1,274
@cylent No. Apple has nothing to do with the GameSalad Market Place. GS takes 30% of every sale, you get the rest. As a note though, you can no longer sell anything for under $2.99.

My new pack is up already. I'd see what's cook'n or escalate it via support. Mark is the go to guy for the marketplace now.

i didnt even realize gs has its own marketplace. i guess thats fair then.
but how do people learn about that?
not only do i have to advertise about my app now i have to promote the gs marketplace? is this marketplace available for a download via the apple store? i am so confused.

The GameSalad marketplace is it's own entity. The assets found therein are to be used in conjunction with the GameSalad creator for Game Creation only. It has nothing to do with Apple or the App store. It does not require a developer license via Apple, just an contactual agreement to sell your assets with GameSalad.

The link I posted above earlier hosts the information about getting started on the marketplace. The GameSalad team does make posts from time to time promoting the marketplace and getting new faces to apply and submit new goodies, it's just timing and thumbing through the data we have listed here in the dedicated threads.

"not only do i have to advertise about my app now i have to promote the gs marketplace?" Welcome to our world! It's not a bad thing.

it would be extremely helpful if we could check our own sales whenever we want

Jesus - this is a slow process!

A week ago I sent an email requesting to be a seller (and another one a day later with a link to a video of the template I'm hoping to sell).

    Still no response....
    Is this normal?
  • SlickZeroSlickZero Houston, TexasMember, Sous Chef Posts: 2,870
Right now it is. They are in transition because a main player left that department, so they are catching up, and approval times have pretty much doubled, temporarily. They should be back to normal approval/submission speed real soon.
  • DigiChainDigiChain Member, PRO Posts: 1,288
Thanks Slick. I'll be patient a little longer then...

Ok, it's been 2 weeks now since I emailed requesting to become a marketplace seller and still no response...

@SSS - in another thread you stated that the marketplace team had now caught up with the backlog, so do I need to email again?

My initial email just contained a link to a video walkthrough of the template I hope to sell so I don't see why this stage of the process should take so long?

Here's the video. Admittedly I'm biased - but think its a neat little template!:

  • wayneh001wayneh001 Member Posts: 300
@Digi-chain definitely is a neat template! - and a really cool example of what can be done with GameSalad. No idea why GameSalad are taking so long to update, upload and respond to the Marketplace 'hold-up'. Hope it gets sorted soon.

@SaladStraightShooter - what's going on with the GS marketplace?
I've just emailed a seller request again... I don't hold out much hope for a response mind!

Someone left that department, and they are playing catch up. It shouldn't be too much longer before things are back to normal, though.
