Introducing the GameSalad Distribution Network

Hi everyone,

Today we’re excited to announce the launch of a new and powerful feature for the GameSalad Community – the GameSalad Distribution Network (GSDN). After speaking with many of you over the years, one of the biggest challenges facing the indie community is the issue of discoverability. With big publishers moving into mobile gaming and spending large media budgets to acquire players, indie developers have struggled to break into the top charts and acquire new players at a reasonable cost. At the same time, new acquisition techniques have emerged and many savvy developers have benefited from utilizing cross-promotion tactics to acquire players without spending an exorbitant marketing budget. With this in mind, we set out to build a GameSalad Distribution Network – one that leveraged cross-promotion techniques to take advantage of the thousands of games and millions of players throughout the GameSalad universe.

Over the past month, we’ve been testing our cross-promotion technology with a handful of internal games and the results have been quite impressive, with some games more than doubling their revenue during that time. We’re now ready to release the first phase of the GSDN, which will initially replace the More Games button on Basic (non-Pro) games published to iOS. We will promote a variety of high quality games, including select Game of the Month winners as well as several Ice Cap games.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll continue to optimize the technology in preparation for the second phase of the GSDN, which will allow Pros to include the cross-promotion technology in their games and receive traffic in exchange for referring traffic out to other GS games. We think this is a great way for Pro developers to acquire new players at no cost and grow the overall player base within the GameSalad network of games.

Cheers,

Steve
