@FryingBaconStudios Here's the beach I'm moving to... I'll make do with a 15 minute walk to a sea view to start with... maybe 10 years from now I'll own a house with the view... It's a 20 minute drive to a mile long golden sandy beach... that one gets too busy in the summer... so my new local beach should be just right...
New to these forums, but seems like a good way to intro myself:
I started using computers back in the Commodore days when I was 7 or 8, though I was usually on PC/MS DOS-based systems at home, meaning I had to write my own graphics software to then create graphics with - it wasn't exactly a platform for more than word processing & spreadsheets back then. First console was an Odyssey 2, followed by the Atari VCS (which I still have and which still works).
Discovered games for those old systems and basically since then have been working on and off on various games, some of which won awards back when they came out. I've worked in and with various parts of the game industry on and off over the years, all from starting out interning at a local computer game company when I was 14 - which was a long time ago .
Since then I've worked in interactive design & advertising for about 18 years mostly for International/Fortune 500 & 100 companies like Audi, Coca-Cola, Ford, Garnier, GE, Google, Warner Music, Universal Music, Redken, Sony, YouTube, etc. - typically dealing with marketing consumer products and services. Started out as a lowly junior designer and worked my way up to Chief Creative Officer (a fancy title which is less impressive in practice) at major ad agencies before leaving full-time advertising a few years ago to start my own agency, where I work with many of the same clients I've worked with over years.
I still spend a majority of my free time working on games of one form or another, and often spend the effort to get my clients to buy into sponsored/branded game ideas - it takes a little extra effort in convincing them to buy into game ideas, but once they see things moving around they can interact with, and how long people end up staring at their logos, that it usually ends up pretty well for everyone involved. I also spent a few years teaching graphic design, illustration and video game design at a couple different major east coast universities.
I'm in the process of helping to open an indie game development lounge in Brooklyn, NY, where independent game designers & developers can work with each other, help out with playtesting, educate each other, hold events to show the public their games - really, just a comfortable environment when we can make awesome things.
I realise that I am, after reading a lot of these posts, an old dinosaur!
I began in IT in the UK in 1977 (yes, paper tape and writing COBOL using punch cards!).
Pretty much spent the last 36 years developing ATM and EFTPOS network software for banks and other financial institutions in a C/Pascal type language.
I have three boys including my youngest, Christopher, who is severely disabled (thinks like a toddler) - and he's the reason I am developing games - I'm making them for him!
He has two iPads (so there is always one on charge, one being used) and they have changed his life. If Christopher likes the game, then I'm pretty sure other toddlers will. A niche market I am hoping.
My eldest son (28 yrs old) is about to finish a degree in Game Design (he builds games in Unity) and encouraged me to start doing this.
I love GS .. suits me perfectly. As a full-time carer I have managed, in under three weeks, to have my first game (10 levels) to prototype stage.
I hate with a passion playing video games, unicorns, and coffee. However, I love drawing, puzzles, and solving stuff: I absolutely love to code and making things work. Love it. Love it. Love it. I've been doing what I love working for myself since I was a little boy.
Well I've been on and off these forums for a while now, but I figured I'd tell my story too. - For starters, I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area in Texas, great place to live! Ever since I was 12 or so, I had an interest in anything media/technology related. I never really knew where to start with it all. My neighbor, AKA @toastkitten, introduced me to the world of video editing. He attended a new magnet school (career based school) that had just been built, that I planned on attending.
I enrolled in the Media Technology program, and I've been prodigy in the class ever since. Filming, editing, and visual effects are a blast! I've spent countless dollars on cameras, lenses, microphones, ect. Then, my freshman year in high school, @toastkitten introduced me to Gamesalad. At this point, I had no clue what game development was, no clue what a forum was (and some of my previous topics can attest to that), and no clue where to begin. I had heard rumors of successes on the appstore, and thought it'd be the easy way to "Get rich quick"! Sadly, I was wrong.
Lots of work to be put into it. I learned that there are multiple sides to game development, two major sides being the art and programming. I wasn't a big guy on programming (didn't really understand it at the time), so I took a jump into art. I saw a couple guys on the forum take a couple jobs for a hundred bucks or so, and thought to myself "hey, I could just do that!". I got a gig or two, but then was screwed. Didn't know how to make art! I spent countless hours fumbling around in Adobe Illustrator, and finally realized the best way to learn is to recreate pieces of art you admire. At the time, it was the cartoonish art in Angry Birds! It was simple, but it worked! Anyways, I ended up weasling out of the two jobs due to myself not being able to finish the job. Not proud of it, but I owned up to it and was honest about it.
I started to fool around in Gamesalad for a bit, and finally it clicked. This weird game logic started to make sense! Now, to make a game! For a while I was teaming up with a few Gamesalad members, and have been talking to a few of them often for a while now. To this date, I haven't come around to finishing anything, but I blame that on my arrogance for perfection. It's okay though, because every day I learn something new. As long as I'm making SOME progress, I'm okay right? I've started and tossed countless projects, but one day I'll have one to put my name on.
As for right now, it's summer time! I'm going to try to put out an app or two, and see where I go from there. I mean, what've I got to lose? As for plans on the future, I plan to attend the University of Texas at Austin to get my masters in Computer Science! Won't be easy, but I look forward to it!
Hope everyone knows a little bit more about me now, have a good summer!
I just graduated from college with biomed degree minor in chemistry I've been in robotics and hacked a psp and an iPod touch just for fun , I also play piano ,saxaphone and guitar. What drove me to this site was actually when I played wario DIY , so I decided that this could be fun ,and it is !

That's it, and hello!
edit: I've just noticed you joined the forums and were banned already on the first day, what the heck?
I don't think anyone toped the "Cat" fellow though.
