Hi all,
I'll try and keep this short! So I've been using Gamesalad on and off since about late 2009, and I've made plenty of demos and attempts in that time, but not much else.
Fast forward to today and my wife and I are expecting our first child, and we can't wait. I've always had a bit of an entrepreneurial spirit about me, but never the conviction to do much with it. Knowing that I'm about to become a dad has finally given me the push I need, so I'm throwing everything Ive got at becoming a full-time indie game developer (using Gamesalad for the foreseeable future), to earn my family and I the chance to live the lives we want without having to work for somebody else.
I know it might sound like a dream to some people but I'm confident in my abilities, and pretty determined once I have a plan.
I'm going to be blogging throughout the whole experience, on topics ranging from game design, the business and personal aspects of trying to become self-sufficient, and anything else that takes my fancy along the way. I've just posted my first blog post today and I'd love to get some opinions on it from you guys, and maybe some comments and shares if you're feeling generous
Anyway the link to the first post is below, sorry it's a bit wordy but I had a lot to get down, future posts shouldn't be nearly as long! Thanks guys.

Obviously the link once I've added more posts will just be http://barrykeithgrubb.com
PS I'm still tinkering with the blog theme / infolinks at the moment so any opinions would be more than welcome!

@DepressedPanda you have office space already, that's pretty awesome! My office space will be the desk in the corner of our living room until I've earned a fair amount from my games!

Doing what you love for a living is one of the best feelings in the world. Don't ever stop trying to achieve it.
Good luck!
The path will be tricky but never lose hope!
To clarify: I'm ambitious but not crazy reckless - like it says on my blog (I wouldn't blame any of you if you didn't read it ) I do currently have a 9-5 job. I'll be starting this game dev plan in the evenings and weekends around my day job at first, and I definitely won't be giving up the day job until I can get a stable source of income from the games (my wife wouldn't let me for a start)!
Also @poisenden I'll be clarifying more in future blog posts, and the title of this forum post may mislead a bit, but as this is intended as a game plan for my entire life I certainly won't only be using Gamesald. I'll be using it for the foreseeable future whilst teaching myself to code on the side to give myself many more options, I have a blog post coming up about that soon.
@FryingBaconStudios you're right about dealing with the setbacks, I've been reading a few self-improvement blogs lately and that's the general message from most of them! Great advice about savouring every moment too
@firemaplegames thanks for the encouragement, watching your success and reading a couple of interviews you've given has definitely spurred me on recently.
@everyone else thanks for the support
...oh, and have a backup plan just in case you need to pick up the pieces ;-)
I'll keep an eye on your progress. You're doing this for all of us! No pressure!!
Cheers guys.

Carter Thomas's model is interesting. On one hand it's great and perfect business sense - but at the same time my desire to create something worthwhile, and to be proud of, makes it seem unsavoury. Makes you think...
Look forward to part two.
Cheers
