A special weekend long, One hour game contest. Join in when ever you have an hour free. Anytime on Friday to Sunday.
Rules:
- Create a game from scratch using GameSalad Creator
- The game idea should some how be based on the given 'theme'. (ELECTRICITY!)
- Only work on it for 1 hour (when you can find the time today)
- Make a short video of the game, post it on youtube and share in this thread.
The given Theme is their to give you some creative steer... anything goes..
There are NO prizes.. this is for fun !!
Hopefully this gives you a great way to enjoy using GameSalad, to step away briefly from bigger projects, think up new ideas and try out new or old things in GameSalad without having to overly worry about all the aspects of game developing.
Good luck...
(I don't think I'll be making anything myself until late Sunday if at all this time... busy doing drunken air guitar moves at a wedding and then recovering..).
If you've missed them here are the last few simple forum run contests:

Finished! That was fun, thanks @StormyStudio! That's actually the first game contest I've entered.
Okay, here's the result. I spent exactly an hour and didn't have time to add any sounds so it's quiet but you'll get the idea. The video's a bit long because it shows the entire gameplay for beating the game as well as an example of losing the game.

@tatiang that's really nice. Great text game idea and a unique take on the theme for sure.
Glad to be the one to get you try out a contest. . even if there is no prize.
Amazing what can be achieved with the software in an hour once you know how it works really solidly.
I make something tommrow. Got tennis tourtament
The Amazing "Avis Fluito Automatron".
Underestimated this one one and a half hours.
Love your game @tatiang!

Need to watch that again with sound when I can. Looks really interesting like the building or a circuit.
Off to wedding shortly . . then rock n roll
My entry today is "Voltage".
The game is simple. Press buttons to generate voltage. Test to see if the voltage is correct. If it's too high, your voltage indicator will turn red, if it's too low it will turn orange, and if it's the correct voltage it will turn green! After 10 tests you run out of power!
I went a couple of minutes over when I decided to add instructions.
Attached is the project file. As with last time lots of little corners were cut to get it working within the hour window (the game actually took only about 1/2 of the time with my abusing of default Illustrator graphics taking the rest).
It was important to me to have a fully playable game at the end of it, and I think it actually turned out fairly fun, simple and crude as it is!
As with last time, feel free to download and explore it but the game itself and the logic driving it are not free to use.

Cool game @Armelline.
Your sentiment of "important to me to have a fully playable game at the end" is a good one.

@Hopscotch I do feel a cool little experiment like yours is equally valid and very interesting. I know I would not have been able to make that in an hour and a half Last time I tried for an interesting mechanic and spent so long fiddling around that I was barely able to scrape a game out of it in time, so this time I made the end product of a game the focus. Perhaps next time I'll go for a cool idea and not stress on having it an actual game at the end of it That's what I love about these mini challenges, so many possibilities but in an environment where you can't get too carried away

@Armelline, I had the theory buzzing in my head, and although each machine stores nine different pieces of information (state, flow direction, timing, etc.), I was confident I could fit it into an hour. Then the feature creep started because of all the possibilities the generic design lends itself to. Logic gates, capacitors, diodes... see?! But experimenting is soo much fun!
Matthew Carter (the designer of Verdana, Georgia, Bell Centennial, etc.) just gave a talk on Ted and said something interesting, in the vain of ... Constraints don't necessarily force compromise, if you do your best to get the most out of what is possible within set boundaries, the it is not compromise. Compromise is working to a lower standard.

Got to watch the videos, they are all very cool. Funny how I always think everyone else's ideas are so much better than mine! lol!
@Hopscotch, I really like the mechanics of yours. Reminds me of the 'kids' electrical sets that you can build, adding switches, circuits, etc to light lights and spin fans.

@StormyStudio @Hopscotch Thanks!
@Hopscotch @Armelline @jamie_c Great to see your games! It's hard to leave out features you really want in the game. I would add different colored letters that double the word value, or things that explode and remove surrounding letters, etc., etc. Still, it's a good challenge to work within the constraints of an hour. I do wish I'd known about default Illustrator graphics... mine looks so plain. Off to find out about those...

@jamie_c great idea... glad the contest spurred on some creative thinking..
@Armelline once again with the completed game. Very nice numbers game idea.
I'm still hoping to do a late entry myself this week... thinking if possible in one hour I want to do multiple swiping on the left and right of the screen which controls a running hamsters speed.. which generates a current. you then have to swipe fast and enough and long enough to turn on a lightbulb.. or open a hatch that gives you a treat... No time for graphics so the hamster may be a pretty static (but still very exciting) square.
