If he didn´t was thirsty, I can only come up with one idea why he wanted water. He had hiccups(as I have now lol). The bartender noticed this so he took up the gun to scare the man(which will remove the hiccups) So the hiccups disepeared,that's why the man said thank you,because he got rid of the hiccups? Am I right? If not,this could be the "second answer" because it all make sense

What he heard on the radio - was it as simple as 'this person has been killed'? Or did he hear some other piece of information that told him his wife is dead?
And you would be correct. Though I admit im confused about the second question, since it doesn't seem like something he would need to find out from what youve all determined so far.
