iPad 'Pro' - Start the speculation !

SocksSocks London, UK.Member Posts: 12,822

Anyone got any thoughts ?

Looks like it's going to be somewhere between 12.2" and 12.9".

About the only thing reasonably solidly confirmed (insider leaks + case manufacturer's prototypes) is that it has 4 speakers, two at each end (when horizontal).

A lot of the rumours suggest a resolution of 4096 x 3072, but I suspect 3072 x 2304 is more likely given Apple's recent move to x3 size asset resolution.

Nor me; thanks for the heads-up, @Socks. (Unless you dreamt it... )

Seriously, to add, here's one of a few articles I found online about it:

I knew someone had to start it and @Socks, you were one of my top guesses on who it would be! HAHAHA J/K I think I will love it and hate it at the same time. Depending on the price, you might just be better off getting a Mac Book Air, hahaha

Ug. More resolutions to consider when developing. :|

Pressure sensitive? or maybe ship with a pressure sensitive stylus?

    Some sort of memory slot?

    Just a couple wild guesses...

I bet 5 pennies that they are going with a 16:9 or 16:10 ratio.

Lots of support for the stylus idea floating around (Apple's patents / rumours / leaks).

hmmmmm.... It's only a matter of time before they release the iPad Table. You would have to play fruit ninja by running across the room and sliding across the screen in your special "touch compatible" socks. ;)

This is going to be weird iPad. It is basically trying to be a surface. This is going to be hard to market because it is the size of a MacBook but does not run the same software and it is less travel friendly than an iPad or mini iPad.. Can they not just add touch support on MacBooks please. iPad sales are not doing to well this is just a point sale. They need to make different sizes of the iPhone 6. Not everyone was happy with a way bigger phone.

Lots of the current rumours are pointing to a 2732 × 2048 resolution now (which would be a x2.66 asset size on a standard iPad project) . . . Likely to be announced this Wednesday (9th Sept).

It will be cool if it more laptop than tablet.

  • ApprowApprow Member Posts: 703

To be honest it would be cool to see a bigger ipad, but I'm looking more forward the announcement of the new apple tv since it's going to be a new platform to develop for. It means new opportunities to get discovered and to build great games in a non saturated market when it comes out, sadly it might be announced later this year...

Yeah, it looks like it's going to be a kind of bridge between a laptop and a tablet, redesigned keyboard, more desktop like functionality, force touch screen, possibly an Apple stylus too . . . . will need to wait until Wednesday to get the actual details though.

Converting your apps to this new machine is going to be pretty straightforward, GameSalad wouldn't even need to change anything (as far as I understand it), you could just publish with a standard iPad project - just up the resolution of your assets to x2.66, although in reality I suspect even x2 assets will scale up without any noticeable quality loss (for those who don't want to redo all their assets) given that the resolution is likely to be 264ppi.

Another option would be to just open up the game area (something I could do on the game I'm currently working on) on certain types of game, for example if you have a racing game, rather than scaling anything (basically zooming in) you could just keep everything the same size and extend the edges so the player can see more of the surrounding area - the only thing you'd really need to do would be to shuffle the controls around to suit the bigger screen.

It would be cool to see GameSalad support Force Touch eventually . . . "When Force Touch is pressed".

I agree @Approw In fact I have several games in mind for the new Apple TV. It will allow for us to make even more robust games and give us another platform in which to sell. If the Apple TV does have it's own app store it is going to be amazing for GS Devs. :)

Force touch? What exactly is considered a force touch ?

Also...I hope there is a much better stylus than what we have to use now (3rd Party). iPads and stylus (writing) sucks ! But if so I surely don't what a soft screen like some phones are.

How hard one presses on the screen.

If they're adding a stylus and the device is meant to be aimed more at professional users, then they really need to make the stylus pixel accurate... not like the kludgy big crayon type stylus used with most tablets and phones...

More along the lines of Wacom tablet pen type stylus sensitivity... so the iPad can become a proper useful tool for graphic design and whatnot, which has always been one of Apples main markets with regards to desktop computers...

But yup... more interested to see if the Apple TV rumours turn out to be true...

Agreed, it would be great to publish to the Apple TV like we can to the Fire TV.

I imagine Apple will do a great job, there is talk of the touch point resolution being increased.

Agreed, that is the current rumour, the touch point resolution has been increased (specifically to accommodate the Apple stylus).

This would make me get one straight away! Then again, with apple tax, the peripherals will probably drive the cost to be equal to the more versatile Cintiq 27QHD.

ahhh yes of course....hey I also heard recently you can super charge the new iPhone 6+ battery by sticking it in the microwave for about...10-30 seconds!

I couldn't get my battery out so i just put the whole phone in, the screen started flashing for a second like it was charging, but now it won't turn on. Did i put it in for too long? i did the 30 seconds.

Probably over charged it..best to set it in a glass of water for about 10 mins.
