Harmonious [development thread]

Hi folks,

I'm working on a pretty intense project, so I want to share the progress on the forums. I will try to update this thread as much as I can.

Background story:
Harmonious is an ambient, atmospheric, arcade style game with gorgeous graphics and music (at least I hope so). You play with a play box (mechanical music box), that makes music along the way while you're playing. I started with a prototype, showed it to some friends and partners, they simply loved the concept. So I figured, why not create some sort of story around it, something that most people wont forget? Most games these days are mass produced to make a few quick bucks in the appstores, but do we really enjoy them? Do we play it for weeks? No, we don't. We play them for a few days, and simply get bored. Most developers are still trying to create "the next flappy bird", chances are its not going to happen. Why wont a developer make something that really stands out? Something the player really can get attached to? I personally love game's that are made with passion and beauty, but I guess thats just me:blush:

Anyway, I'm not going into to much detail about the mechanics right now , they are not finalized (more on this soon).
Here is the first screenshot of the design I'm going for (main screen), keep in mind that this is a draft, but the game is already functional:)

huge thanks to @Socks for helping me with some mechanical stuff!

Awesome man! I love it. The image is it moving in any way . I mean like parallax. Is the sun flair moving?

So I saw the earlier post with socks, love to see the results . What are you using to build your graphics in?

@floatingwoo Thanks:)! Yes the palace should have moving 3d parts (pre rendered in blender3D), the image above is a screenshot from gamesalad, not from blender. but it looks amazing! at this point it is very hard to tell if the game is actually 3D or 2D, I keep it on 2.5D haha. I actually build and rendered the palace out of individual parts, they have the custom animate behavior(also invented by the amazing socks) in them so it doesn't swallow your memory. Until now results are stunning, and great performance on lower end devices.

about the sun flare... yes, it is layered with several blending layers. The whole weather is changeable, including sunsets and moonlight etc:)

Changeable weather sounds great too  I'm not sure if you saw this old thread, but this is a dynamic lens flare project, might be some useful bits you could steal ? http://forums.gamesalad.com/discussion/62437/lens-flare

@Braydon_SFX Thanks a lot, appreciate that:)

@Socks Double thanks too you too! you helped me out with some complicated stuff(at least for me these math based functions are hard, but I'm learning every day). The lens flare looks really interesting, thanks for sharing. I might steal some stuff from that thread;)
