GS Pro Loading Screens

It is my understanding that you can upload custom loading screens with GS Pro, but will the spinning loading icon still be in one of the corners?

    You can add your own custom loading/splash screen with both the Free and Pro version of Gamesalad. In the Pro version you can also upload a separate image for use as a custom loading wheel. This loading wheel will display between scenes as each scene is loaded.

    Can the loading wheel be completely turned off?

    No, not really. You could probably use a transparent image so no 'wheel' would show but the box for the wheel would still be there. I believe Apple requires some sort of loading indicator anyway... but I could be wrong.

  • It've been long years already, why GS haven't done something with Loading Wheel?

    Due to the somewhat slow loading time between scenes, any slight pause in gameplay requires a loading indicator, otherwise the game can be rejected.

    A plain loading screen isn't enough?

    It would work, but the loading indicator is already is place so my guess its not really seen as anything critical. You can always submit a feature request.

    I used to make a feature request a coupe of months ago, see this thread;
    http://forums.gamesalad.com/discussion/85664/optional-loading-wheel
    It's status is unconfirmed, but not visible in the buglist anymore.

    A year later, would it be possible to get rid of the grey box but only have my own loading indicator?

    @evert You can do a fade to white or fade to black if you want , works pretty well just add in GS a black actor to cover the screen , change its opacity to 1 or 0 and change scene . If your doing fade to black put a black image , if white put a white image. Apple wont reject that and the loading time is fast enough to make it look smooth.

    All apps games have a loading indicator heck even your iphone has a load wheel on the top bar. I don't see the load wheel as an issue at all. Just put some cool image in there.

    The problem is that you cannot specify where to put the indicator (as far as I can tell) or tis size. It would be more aesthetically pleasing if you had control over that.

    I think you still have the grey background behind the image though, especially if the image is transparent. And if I remember rightly the grey box has round edges. If you're building an app or game with a specific style (flat UI with straight edges etc.) that can look odd. To the general player/user of the app they probably don't notice that it doesn't fit with the style, but the developer does.

    Yeah indeed, but i got it hidden pretty well, i'm building a vertical game so the loader is placed in the right corner on the bottom. I also have an ad there at all time.
    The switch between my menu and my game (same scene) is pretty fast, at the time my ad gets reset because of the scene reset the ad appears again and the loading is gone. This takes about 1 sec now in the current build of my game.
