Forum search
When searching for things burried in the forum, one must use proper keywords. You need to be up on the proper terms for how things are done in creator. Heck most people don't even know what a prototype actor is. Most people come here in a rush to make a game and skip learning the fundamentals of gamesalad. I am constantly amazed at how many people, some who have been here for years, ask questions about things that should have been learned very early on. You can't become a power user in gamesalad by skipping learning the basics. You need all this info to be able to design good code. Good coding is all about using the best method for the task and if you are not up to speed on the pros and cons of particular methods or are unaware of methods you won't be able to make good choices. You can't grow as a game builder not spending time learning all you can.

Not really sure who you're aiming this at. Those that don't search the forum first won't see your post when it's buried several pages down in a couple of weeks. Those that do search don't need to be taught how to search. I'm sure many of us use Google day in and day out.
LMAO.. Ah a comment in another thread I responded to and I thought this would be good food for thought. I tried anyway..lol

The vast majority of answers to basic questions can be found by doing a forum search but some people are lazy and won't bother. A post telling such users to use the search function will probably not help them much
When I see a very basic question that has been already answered a gazillion times (one for which the answer can easily be found via a search) then I personally will not even bother to answer it most of the times (cause why waste my own time when the user in question won't even spend a minute or two to do a search and some studying..)
Yep you're right.

It's about me and the thread that I started about changing team names. I'm really sorry I asked that question, I seem to be getting a bit of scolding about it. To be fair, one can't know how often I search the forums for answers to my questions before finally asking it myself. I do search the forums, I would say like 95% of the questions I've ever wanted to ask have been solved by old answers on the forums or videos. The forums are an immensely helpful place.
On the other end, the advice of "search better" isn't really helpful. I was trying, I was failing, I asked for help. You learn to search better by having more experience, experience that I clearly don't have yet.
I've watched a lot of tutorial videos. I usually use google to search the forums. One downside to what shows up, I've found, is that a lot of video links seem to link to old videos or example projects that aren't there anymore.
As sort of an example, I remember reading recently that a bunch of the advice in the "31 tips to optimize your gamesalad project" thread isn't applicable anymore, but it's still the thread that's at the top of the search results. Therefore, it still get referenced a lot by a lot of new people. Maybe we could get an updated version of it put into the cookbook?
Again, sorry about it. Although I do find this thread a little bit frustrating as I don't see this kind of knuckle rapping happen when someone asks "How do I make my character move".
I'm trying here, really I am.

I don't why people have to get mad at other gamesalad users for not "using" the perfect way to create their game. I'm sure everyone has made a game or done something within gamesalad differently than someone and it has worked out. If someone needs help and accidentally forgets to use the search bar, they shouldn't get yelled at, they should just get help. Sorry if I said the wrong thing...
I think users here get upset when the people asking the questions say they followed such and such tutorial/video, yet the question being asked was covered in said tutorial.
Its nothing to take to heart, these types of posts like the OP's are a way for the forums as a whole to blow off some steam. Its actually healthy to the forums and it reminds whoever is reading to be a little more self sufficient.
Edit:
But the guru is absolutely right, there are some members here that been here for years yet ask very basic questions. @The_Gamesalad_Guru it boggles my mind as well.

It wasn't about you @tappwater Games this was about the search funtion not working well. It always works for me. Plus I wasn't yelling at him. I was making a point for new users that the search can work for you. And how you can make it work by unsing the right terminology. Geez forget i ever said anything...lol things always get taken out of context around here...LMAO
An whoever is using the flag as a dislike of comments, stop being a coward and just comment. I'm a big boy i can handle your criticisms.
