edited November -1 in Working with GS (Mac)
Hi Guys,

Bumps is finished and i have made a promo video (could do with a pro to edit but had no reply from forum members).

Anyway Bumps has 54 levels 5 mini games and 4 unlockable games including Breakout, Pinball, Hockey and a Shump.

We think Bumps is a great game to showcase what gamesalad can do and also great value for money.

Bumps will be released early August either by ourselves or via Chillingo (still in talks with Chillingo).

Thanks for watching.

Darren.

Looks like a lot of effort has gone into this, congratulations, bloody good luck with sales. I would seriously suggest cutting the video length down, people will loose interest after about a minute and a half! There was a guy recently (toastkitten maybe) who advertised to do trailers, they promo looked good and maximum he was charging was about $20 i think.

$20 sounds great and yes i agree about cutting it down.

Want something similar to the pc version video tbh but in HD.

    Hey fella,

That looks absolutely fantastic - very nicely and professionally done!

The thing to do now is edit your video down. No-one is likely to watch five minutes worth of your game I'm afraid.

I'd suggest editing it into separate videos of about a minute each. You have enough features in there to highlight each one in a video I reckon.

First, one 'overall' video showing gameplay and unlockable stuff. Show off the bullet points you've already stated:
    54 levels
    5 mini-games
    4 extra unlockable games

    Are there different game modes?

Second, make a video dedicated just to the mini-games

Third, make another video for the 4 extra unlockable games.

Also, screenshot wise, make sure the screenshots are the right way round for the game (or game type). And don't put in menu screens - you've got enough variety in there that five quality shots should not be hard to get!

Wish you the best with this - a lot of effort's gone into it for sure :D

This one really is awesome. the attention to detail is incredible.

For the video I agree in keeping it down as much as possible. However, on the pc version one I don't really get a good idea of how the gameplay mechanics work, makes me think it's some sort of platformer. Maybe show one quick level in full before breaking out into the faster clips of other levels.

Great advice guys...just heard from Chillingo they will pass on publishing so looking like a self publish job :)

I think Chillingo require the crystal network features, games built within GS have no access to anything like that so its highly unlikely they'll ever publish anything GS made. Good luck though, i hope sales go well, hopefully you'll get an Apple feature ;)

Wow! I pop into the forum to see what's a happenin', and this is right at the top! Makes me feel somewhat embarrassed about what I am about to subject people's eyes to in a few minutes time...

    WOW!!! Looks Awesome!!!!!
From the looks of it, it looks like there are a lot of other collision areas than just circles and rectangles!!! How did you do that?!

How much are you charging btw?

Were thinking $1.99-$2.99 is a fair price but so many top quality 99c games i think it might be what we will end up at.

Yeah its definately worth $1.99-$2.99 but your going up against doodle jump, angry birds, and PVZ, tough market...

You do have a very polished game though! It will do well!!!

We might have an opening price of 99c and do a buy now at 66% off or something and see how sales go then decide.

Was thinking the same - 99c for opening weekend/a few days - then up to $1.99 - who knows, eh?

Hey Darren. I hav a question.. In your Air Hockey game the puck never gets stuck how did you pull that off!?

In mine it always gets stuck in the corners... Been trying to solve this for weeks and haven't found a solution... If you could let me know, I'd appreciate it. Thanks

Looks very good!! How is performance on older devices? Did you manage to sort out the load time issues?

Can it fast enough to play on Iphone 2G?
  • UtopianGamesUtopianGames Member Posts: 5,692
We tested on a 3G and ipod touch 2nd Gen the 3G is only very slightly behind in load times but both play at high frame rate and were VERY happy with the results.

We did sort out the instant reset level so now when you mess up and want to restart the level it resets instantly....glad we did this as it keeps the flow of the game and you dont have to wait for a second or 2 while it resets the scene.

What was your method for doing this if you don't mind sharing Darren?

It was a bit of a pain tbh but what i did was...

Remember the starting positions of all Bumps, keys and locks and reset to position when reset is pressed.

It wasn't as straight forward as that because i had to move keys and locks off screen for eg red key hits red lock both key and lock would move out of view and if reset was pressed go back to start X & Y.

Also i have medals so i still had to count how many times reset was pressed.

It works well and resets in the blink of an eye with no problems and the eye candy like floating flowers and the music is not interrupted....if you reset using "reset scene" the music will restart when its loaded so this works a lot better imo.
