Hotel Rush 1st day sales - pretty good

StusAppsStusApps Member, PRO Posts: 1,352
Well I think I should definitely take my wifes advice on making games more often.

1st day sales are in for Hotel Rush and the HD version.

Including the extra half day head start the iphone version got over the ipad, the sales look like this.

Hotel Rush (iphone/ipod touch) - 151
Hotel Rush HD (ipad) - 23

Both at 1.99 so first day sales of $348. Not too bad at all!

I guess this accelerates the Cafe Rush project a bit.

What are your rankings? Mine are dropping like flies in every store apart from the US, where it seems to be steadily climbing... the App Store is a weird place...

Excusing my ignorance, but how do I find out? I am just using the itc iphone app to track sales at the moment.

    Will appannie.com help?

    appannie is great!

Are these sites all the same data as each other?

    Wow, i'm big in Thailand!
  • StusAppsStusApps Member, PRO Posts: 1,352
interestingly the data on appannie is a day old, same goes for going through the itunes connect site.

Seems that the itc mobile app is quicker to update with sales info. But love the rankings info, can't tell if it's going up or down yet as it's first day.

Well you're doing well... I only made $46 :( But then again, that was before I got featured so hopefully will improve!

nice one! its taken me over 4 months to even get close to that with Quizicards!
  • AfterBurnettAfterBurnett Member Posts: 3,474
LOL, know the feeling, Ian. By the way, I really like Quizicards, though I find it a bit too hard... maybe a bit too localized for some? Very nice app though and now I have 2 iPods I might start playing multiplayer!

Day 2 sales were pretty good too. Even with bugs and bad reviews.

    iPhone 105
    iPad 53

    still at 1.99 a piece.

over $650 in 2 days, very pleased!

    Woohoo!!! ^__^

    Congratulations on the early success!!!

I recommend you go $0.99 and try to get some momentum first!

If the game is getting this kind of response out of the gate...get that momentum kicked in and see if you can increase your download counts...which equals better rankings.

Once you have the rankings...then perhaps pop the price back to 1.99 (or leave it at 0.99 if the sales are strong and the income is respectable).

Then if the game is well received...build your sequel app with MORE hotels and more features and then charge $1.99 for that one and advertise it in your first one.

    Just a suggestion!

    BTW:
Your currently at #188 and you peaked around #135 in strategy.
Perhaps if you go to $.99...you can break the 100 slot and start being discovered on devices in the rankings...which could propel you even higher.

possibly, but i am following my theory of implied value by pricing at 1.99.

the interesting one is that the game is now #204 on the gamespot.com listings for iphone. I have no idea how it got on there in the first place, but pleased with it.

Not sure what your value theory is based on.

The app store is about 90% under $1. You may be fighting a strong headwind. To drop to a $1 may sacrifice some initial profits but it may also catapult you forward with a strong initial momentum...which is critical to maintain long term sales.

You can do what you wish...but I still recommend that you go to $1 and try hard to get those rankings up first. If you have a hit...you can still make a ton of dough at $1...probably more than at $2...just because your market is 10 times larger at $1 than at $2. And since your app is targeting youth...they tend to migrate to apps at $1 or less and rarely purchase apps costing more than that.

Your art is stellar and the game concept is a proven success (in other titles). Don't let price points get in the way of YOUR success.

I think synth is right. My ranking has climbed heaps since I dropped to 99c. About 200 spots!
  • synthesissynthesis Member Posts: 1,693
    BTW:
The gamespot ranking is probably synced with your app store position...and if so...it means your ranks are falling...not climbing.

Pay close attention this week to those trends. If your US ranks are consistently dropping...you need to pull out all stops to get them on an upward slope...preferably before you drop out of the top 200 in your genre.

not sure what it's based on yesterday when the app was higher on the app store it was reading 20000th on gamespot.

But has that translated into sales?

I guess it's too early to tell. Let me know how todays sales are and I might do it.

Well my grossing rank has climbed loads too, so yeah. Will know for sure tonight!

    Keep up the sales! :)
  • AfterBurnettAfterBurnett Member Posts: 3,474
I made about 30% more today after swapping to 99c and that wasn't even for the whole 24hours... not to mention a massive jump in rankings... think it was the right move ;-)
  • FanStudioUKFanStudioUK Member Posts: 459
Wow, that's a good thing to know...

So, when I will submit my first app, you guys recommend to sell it for 0.99$ and after an updated version which will have more features it won't be a problem to sell it for 1.99$, right?
  • StusAppsStusApps Member, PRO Posts: 1,352
That's the answer I was hoping for. So I've dropped the iphone version to .99 and kept the ipad at 1.99. The ipad sales have increased each day, so gonna see how that goes.

My day 3 is still just over 100 units, but it is down. I'll report tomorrow on any changes.

Good idea keeping the iPad one at $1.99 :)

Any news on the update? I REALLY like this game... just those bugs are... bugging me. LOL.
