Im hoping the game will still get featured and receive some press coverage, as its still quite early in the game so to speak.... but Im quite disappointed for you guys and the GameSalad community that the game so far hasnt been an instant hit.... as it really deserves to be.
I know its been a struggle for you guys on the appstore, but I hope you dont give up just yet, as theres still time for things to turn around...
But it really does put things into perspective when a game as polished as Bumps struggles to get noticed....
This, for me, is a really nice game. It does what it says, and it does it in the most polished way. I really hope it will hit it big, it would be a pity if all the efforts I can see when playing it will go to waste. And what's more, if it doesn't, no new levels for me
POLYGAMe said: Why did you even bother looking up our rankings?
Getting an app featured is very hit-or-miss. By looking at how other apps perform, I can learn more about how the system works. App Annie also tracks when apps are featured.
Photics said: I'm not sure. I thought that the iPhone / iPod Touch was supposed to be cutesy and casual.
I guess nobody told Capcom... if they had, they wouldn't have released Resident Evil. Same goes for FireMint... you should have spoken up sooner, Photics and they wouldn't have wasted all that time and money developing Real Racing... not to mention those horrific failures Hero of Sparta 1 & 2... man, why did you keep this secret for so long?
POLYGAMe said: Lucky you made Commove and Arcade Action so "cutesy" then, eh? :P
Commove is cutesy and casual, with relaxed pace. There are no timers and no pressure. It was featured and it was my most successful GameSalad game. Arcade Action is traditional "hardcore" arcade game. You get one life, one hit you're dead. I don't know of anyone who's unlocked Game #5... other than myself. The interface and the controls are more advanced and there's a lot of shooting. It was not featured, even though it's optimized to run on older hardware, yet it has retina display support. I think the game is lots of fun. It seems to be my least successful GameSalad project, but it's my favorite... not counting the book.
Before the two games launched, I figured that Bumps would do better than Max Vector because of that reason. Your game is like an Atari 2600 / Nintendo 8-bit game. It's retro. Bumps looks like an iPhone game. I was surprised that the lite version of your app was featured so quickly. I'm actually surprised that it was featured at all.
I'm still processing this information and then I'm going to decide what to work on next. I was getting discouraged. If Bumps couldn't get featured, why should I bother? Seeing this turnaround is not just good for the developers, it's good for the GameSalad community.

One day you'll discover these things called "genres". Just because one or two successful games were "cutesy and casual" doesn't meant all iPhone games are "supposed to be" like that. There are also a hell of a lot of very UN-CUTE successful games for the iPhone, including Alpine Crawler, which hit the number 1 spot. Things go in and out of fashion.
Were all SNES games SUPPOSED to be RPGs because the system had loads of good ones? Were all Mega Drive games SUPPOSED to be arcade ports? Were all PS1 games SUPPOSED to be racing titles? Are all Xbox games SUPPOSED to be Halo?
You are extremely narrow-sighted and quite frankly, I'm getting sick of you constantly bagging my game every chance you get - it's totally uncalled for and pathetic. It shows nothing but jealousy because of the fact that your games have gone nowhere. Stating publicly that Max Vector was only featured because the review process was expedited was REALLY grasping at straws. Sure, Max has its flaws, I'm the first to admit it but I am very proud of what I have done and IT WAS MY FIRST GAME, though I doubt you've even played it.
But if you REALLY want me to let you know what I think of your titles, keep doing it... actually, I take that back... I'm sick of responding to you... you simply miss the point... ON EVERYTHING. YOUR WAY IS THE ONLY WAY.
I apologise to Utopian for the way this thread has changed... please someone else get it back on track.
Ummmm I'm not sure if you guys have noticed this, but Bumps has been featured and is now in the top 200 ALL PAID APPS, and its climbing ranks by the second, so yes its a tremendous success...
Also I love Max Vector and Bumps, they are both awesome games and I don't think you can compare them...
I might be leaning more towards Max though (because I got it for free) Haha jk Their both great games!
I did know about and try and fix the eye bug but couldn't find a solution and as it only happened very rarely when testing (will try and fix this in an update) we decided to release.
Sadly Bumps has flopped with only 200 odd sales in the 1st week with 7 yesterday and i will expect it to reach the 0-1 a day mark soon.
We did market by sending out codes/press releases etc to over 30 top sites but very few have picked it up.
We will have to seriously think about continuing with game dev as it stands because we simply cannot afford the flops/lottery of the app store.
Since your thinking about quiting can I buy your account for $200? Don't worry I'll take care of the banking information haha better rethink what you said!

There are some games that break the trend, but it looks like mostly colorful and cheerful games stay at the top. Bumps is a colorful and cheerful game. I'm stating things the way I see it. I'm surprised that the company (Chilingo?) didn't pick up this game. Maybe that's a big mistake for them, as the pendulum swung towards independent gamers this week.
I'm seeing some great things from this community lately. I don't have to be jealous of you. Your game getting featured helps me. I made a decision to focus on the book instead of the games. I think that was the correct decision. But now that I'm getting back into development, I have to decide what works. You're not making a compelling argument against cutesy games.
That comes from the top. Steve Jobs doesn't want pornography on the platform. Mindless violence isn't as shocking as the days of Mortal Kombat. I think I'd probably increase my chances of success by building casual games and family friendly games.
Because one or two successful games are cute, ALL GAMES ARE SUPPOSED TO BE???? Even if 90 percent of successful games were "cute", how on earth would that ever mean all games are SUPPOSED to be cute? How can YOU tell people what their games are SUPPOSED to be?
THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE WHATEVER THE DEVELOPERS WANT THEM TO BE.
Man, I give up... you're about as reasonable as Idi Amin.

Thanks QS for pointing this out.
Darren.
It's like FMG said - some games just need a little time to gain traction!
Good luck with it - hope it helps you!

I hope this is the first of many, and gets the momentum rolling for you
But I agree, Bumps is FAR superior. i reckon it'll be a top ten game.
Even Fragger and Fruit Ninja are cutesy violence.
