ok, I did this, and it still works with the mouse click in Game Salad, but when I test it on the ipad nothing happens when I touch the button. Any ideas?

From a development perspective, I actually recommend getting a first gen iPad. Your game will definitely run on the new one if it runs on the original one.

As to size- are you building for the iPhone or iPad? AFAIK, you'll want to keep your iPhone game below 20mb to be downloadable over 3G.
