I hope I'm seeing this wrong. I have a pro account that I'm probably not going to renew because of the loss of custom load screen, but I've been waiting to do one last update with the promised improvements for all three of my GS apps before my membership runs out in late December.

Now if I understand correctly, I can't update and see the improvements (load time seems about it) because I will lose the custom load screen option I paid for?

    Geez, this sucks.
  • TechnoDaveTechnoDave Member Posts: 103
Design219, yup so far that's the deal. You upgrade you loose your custom screen. Or at least I did! GameSalad is dying for us pro users!

Once again. WHAT ARE YOU THINKING GameSalad team!?! It's great to have a strong base of hobby users, but us professionals were using Gamesalad for paying clients. You just took Gamesalad out of our tool belts because of the forced splash screen.

It's a shame, we all know that gamesalad is reading these posts as they go up yet no replies form them?

From what I understand IF you are a current Pro member you still will NOT get the splash screen while your current membership lasts - however once that expires and your new Basic or new Pro membership kicks in both will have the GS Splash screen.

I hope, they kick the idiot right now, who has invented all this mess.

I mean, I like the new prices and I upgraded to pro immediately, but I won't use it, until they sort out this mess.

    ---

It's really a cheap solution to remove the splash screen for the exPro users and say: see, you get more.

It is STILL NOT worth 2000 dollars.
  • TechnoDaveTechnoDave Member Posts: 103
Yes, it seems as if GameSalad is forcing a splash screen and don't forget silly jingle in the front of every game! Effectively killing all pro use of there software!
  • TechnoDaveTechnoDave Member Posts: 103
I just got off the phone with one of my clients. I sent them a screen shot of the splash screen that will be forced in to the app.

Basically I have rebuild the whole app or loose the job!

Thanks GameSalad, you are now forcing me to use Unity3D to rebuild this whole app that I have spent 3 months on! Bad for Gamesalad, bad for me, bad for my client, but good for Unity.

If the splash screen for Pro is going to stay, I hope they will refund the 99 bucks since I won't using GS and will have to use something else.

Paid with Pay Pal so I guess I could dispute it.
  • TechnoDaveTechnoDave Member Posts: 103
Thanks "WhyAreYouHere" but I would like a response from the GS team. And I think the rest of the community has a right to hear that response too! So if you don't mind I am going to keep the conversation going. You can stop repeating yourself now.

I just updgraded to PRO. I think in addition to the initial GS screen, I'll copy it and do it a second or maybe third time cause I love it so much.

Can I get a shot out from any other Pro members! Who's going to not going to be able to use GS now that we are being forced to have a splash screen?
  • YogamattaYogamatta Member Posts: 27
I am not a pro member right now. I found GS just a week ago when 0.9 was on it's way and nobody knew how the membership program would look like. But I can say that I can't use pro level without custom loading screen. In that case free membership is enough because I'll use it only for mock-ups and small demos.

Yes, that is pretty much all it's good for at this point if you are doing serious game development either for yourself or clients. If you are just making games for fun, then this is a great program for you to use.

If I can't get my 99 upgrade back, I for sure will not renew it when it comes up again if GS is still in business at that point.

    @Tshirtbooth

I know your trying to help in your own way, but telling TechnoDave to contact GameSalad so he can try to sort out some sort of agreement to make bespoke apps is kind of skirting around the issue... and its an issue that a lot of customers are going to have.

Surely this was a forseen issue... and surely the logical thing was to have a subscription tier that allowed Custom loading screens. It was after all one of the biggest complaints regarding the Direct publishing model. A lot of Devs use the software to make projects for clients... and thats the definition of Pro... a lot of clients simply dont allow or want a logo previous to theirs.

It just looks like GameSalad are completely missing the point, and being heavy handed with their publishing model again.

Look at most competing engines...they always have a version that allows custom logo/loading screens... thats how they make their money... not from kids/hobbiests who want the software for free/as little as possible, but from Pro users who are willing to pay a fair price for the product.

Saying that, Im still taking it all in at the moment...

    @Chinkypoxels, well said, here here!

@TShirtbooth, the only reason you are getting flack from me tonight, is because you were going around telling people to "Not make trouble" under your kids user name. Also you act like you are right there with us by saying "the splash screen sucks" yet just a few days ago you posted a youtube video showing off your phone with the splash screen. You have been beta testing for these guys for a while now and have known about the splash screen for a looooong time now. I take issue with Mr. GSHelper acting like he is on our side why you clearly have a new found bias. You are entitled to your opinion just like everyone else! Just be upfront and stop acting like you have no connection with Gamesalad. And stop telling people to be quite. Everyone is aloud to speak their mind here!

You guys are starting to act like spoiled little kids now. If you dont like the splash screen, learn code and make your app with something else. Plain and simple. How easy do you want it to be, you cant have everything.

@TechnoDave -- tshirt is not telling you be quiet, he is telling you to contact Gendai directly and see if they will be willing to work out a solution for your splash screen issue. You will most likely get a better response from Gendai that way than waiting for a response in the forum.

And before you accuse me of it, no, I don't work for or with Gendai.

Actually we are profeshianals who use a fantastic tool like GameSalad to make fantastic apps! We want to see GameSalad grow and are huge fans of the tool. That's why we use it in so many of our client's projects. But if GameSalad takes away our ability to use gamesalad for client by adding in a forced splash screen then what are supposed to say. Oh and one more thing, I do know how to code, been coding for years and have created dozens of apps using code and other engines. But I still use gamesalad! That's how great the tool is! So major props to the developers, but the business team over there at GS needs to get their heads on strait, why kill off your pro users!?!?

Hi netdzynr I wasn't reffering to his comments to me, but the comments he made to another member this evening telling that member to stop making trouble. He has been putting out several fires this evening telling people to quite down, not just me.

Like several of you, I have clients that won't like that splash screen. At ALL. I actually had my money ready to buy Pro JUST for the ability to NOT have their splash screen. Sigh, this is never going to end, is it? Listen, People Who Make Game Salad, we would really, reeeeeally not like that frakkin' splash screen after we give you 500 bucks. Adobe doesn't make me put Made with Adobe on all the art I make, Newtek doesn't make me put Made in Lightwave....we are buying a tool. No one else forces us to use their company names in our products. For 500 bucks, neither should you.

I under stand that completly, they shouldve made it clear that no matter what membership you use your stuck with the splash screen. But im just saying, i know obj c, javascript and can do some stuff in open gl as well. And like you i still choose to use gamesalad because it saves alot of time. Im just saying im more then happy to have a 2 second splash screen to save me a month or 2 of code.

Everyone here is entitled to their opinion, but it's a lost cause when you start criticizing your members, and for some of you, friends.
We're all here for the same purpose so don't lose sight of that.
Everyone here should be able to voice their opinion, and not everyone will be on the same page.
