I dont get it Photics. You provide the screen shots to the forum and site that basically says you suck for using GameSalad you screen shots and not us. Thats pretty low if you ask me. Those guys don't support you at all.

Oh my gosh!! I knew your game was going to be great, but not THAT great... I love the look and feel of the game, hopefully it plays as good as it looks... Especially with the 3D look to it, I thought it would be more of a 2D look, but I like this a lot better (with the whole green glow level, etc.). Great job, definitely worth the wait... Currently, I would give it a 5/5... I bet the people at Touch Arcade were surprised the most. Amazing what you can do with GameSalad and a little bit of artwork (well, not in your case)... So did you model all of your characters in a 3D builder and then export them as 2D images? I bow down to you, the new GameSalad God...

Oh come on!!!. The GameSalad god would not have chosen the TA forums over GS forums for the first look.
There is a reason why people consider you the greatest GameSalad programmer! Those screenshots look A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.!!!!
TANK-BOT is an Insta-BUY for me!
It's nice to see a good, successful game to finally come out of GameSalad!
Your textbook was a steal at twenty five dollars. I bet you could sell this game for twenty five dollars too - or even more!!! It honestly looks better than most XBox-360 games I have ever seen.
Please keep us updated as the release date looms closer!!!
@rlehm: just take a few minutes and sign up over there! You just need a valid email address and make sure you write down your password so you can remember it. Show your support for a fellow GS dev! In only a few minutes you can join their forums and then you can see see the exclusive screenshots! Totally worth it!

You joined 2 hours ago just to say that. @Photics I mean seriously, i dont want to offend you or something but this looks like more of a "slap to the face to the GS and its community. You have this thread for a while and people here are keeping track of it and then you release your first exclusive screenies outside this forum. The Fact that you have a book written about GS. I just dont digg it.
Well anyways the screens looks good and like other people say there it's very unexpected. Good luck with your sales and hope you could finish it faster.
I bought the Unofficial™ GameSalad textbook a few weeks ago and this is the first time I felt compelled to post a message to these forums in one of the threads. Phoetics is the reason I'm sure a lot of us are able to get our feet wet with Gamesalad in the first place so we can start making our dreams come true.
I've been waiting for this game for AGES....and the shots are even better than I thought they'd be.
Yes I can understand why people on here are a little pi$$ed off that Photics decided to post exclusively to TA forums. It also would have been nice if we would have gotten at least 1 Exclusive screenshot or something, considering this is the largest thread on GS :-/.
But Photics has risked a lot making this Game and so its up to him to Market it as he sits fit to do so. The feedback on TA so far seems good, with a few comments saying the quality is better than they expected from a GS game. If BOT is THE game that really pushes GS's reputation, then this is good news for us all and will be easier for us to get reviews on other sites in the future.
On the screenshots themselves; I love them all. The shop is not at all like I imagined it, style reminds me of Sega's Space Channel 5 on the Dreamcast. I also really like the quality of the rocky mountain shot. But my fave is the Laser Night Vision one, can imagine a real sense of urgency when exploring that area.
Overall I really am pleased with BOT from these shots, although what would really make me happy is an Exclusive GS Video of gameplay so we can see TANK in action?? ;-)

you're gushing a little to much to be believable. all you've seen are some screenshots. All that proves is photics is good with photoshop. I think the game looks great, but it's just screenshots. We gotta see some gameplay video.
oberning said: It's just because he wants it to be more exclusive and that = more $$
Actually, it's because it's harder to post screenshots here. My site blocks hot-linking. I thought about disabling it for gamesalad.com, but I decided just to make a new post at my forum. It should be online in about an hour. I'll post a link here when it's done.
jonmulcahy said: All that proves is photics is good with photoshop. I think the game looks great, but it's just screenshots. We gotta see some gameplay video.
Heh, actually, I used Pixelmator instead of Photoshop.
Come on guys, i think giving Photics a hard time over where he posts his screenshots is not really on! To be honest, does it matter where its posted? Like what was pointed out on TA, you want to get it out to as many places as possible, you want your game to be seen and known by as may as you can. It didnt bother me, i clicked the link and looked at the pictures. After all, he's trying to fight our corner, its mentioned the game is going to be done in GameSalad, he got some stick for it and is trying to change their opinions. TA is seen as the holy grail, he had a big following on his thread there which was seen by more than on here, why do we need the exclusives?
I dont always see eye to eye with Photics, at times his whining and GameSalad 'bashing' infuriates me but his intentions are good, its to try and get the best for all of us, he's clearly put a lot of effort into BOT, for that i tip my hat to you sir.
I do need to make a promo video, but I think I should finish the game first. It can take several hours... or even longer... to make a good video. I think it's more important to finish the game first.
So there I was, messing with one of the textures for a new Mech... removing any distinguishing marking... when I was wondering what level of quality JPEG should I select? Since I've been working with GameSalad so much lately, I had to stop and think about it. I was like... ick... JPEG... a lossy compression format. I could have sat there a while and thought about it. Instead, I moved the slider a little and basically put it back to the default setting. I figured that near maximum should be good enough. I saved the file and then...
POOF!
The power went out. This is a serious detriment to productivity. Instead of getting angry, I thought that this was a good time to take a break. I went to take a shower. Just as I was typing a status update from my iPhone, the power clicked back on.
If this was a prolonged power outage, that would be serious trouble. Even with a laptop, looking for places to recharge would be cumbersome. Aside from the data access on my iPhone, Internet access went down with the power too. I'm glad I don't have to worry about how I would resolve that problem. There have been lots of issues with BOT, but power and Internet connectivity has been pretty stable.
Heh, that didn't stop me from wondering about a power generator or solar panels. What would happen if the power stayed off? What if the world turned into the one like my game... no Internet and giant robot monsters trying to kill me? Heh, it certainly puts the remaining challenges of the game in perspective.
It seems that my file did not save. I had to redo my changes to the Mech. If I hadn't hesitated to figure out the JPEG setting, I might have had my file. Although, it was easy to create my changes the second time.
good luck photics i see you finally gave in to demand and released some screenshots..close to release? not sure you should sell at $25 as someone suggested but it seems like there is a lot of variety in those shots.
I remember you talking about a disc icon recently and honestly i think it is the only thing holding the menu back. too retro, im not sure what the icon represents, but perhaps some sort of cpu chip instead? I know some people hate criticism on work they've carefully thought out - i mean at the moment my project is my baby! but i wanted to mention it nonetheless also i like the HUD health bar character icon - but perhaps just a slightly a wider angle with the character pushed back a little to see his right shoulder blade to represent his tankiness as opposed to roman guardishness if you know what i mean.
i noticed the inverse bikini on the robotshop chick - nice feminine touch for a rough mech tank on break, eh ;0)
Bit of a mixed single from posts ive read but generally positive so far with regards to the graphics, i always thought gameplay videos do more justice to show a games potential - although the particle effects look pretty awesome captured in motion, I especially like the blurred firey bits, rocket launcher in your game is something id like to see, perhaps a short trailer with brief gameplay glimpses is something you may be preparing?
did you have any trouble turning the tank shadow off over edges of the hill or was it always enough of a border...? thanks and sorry for the long post!

I've set the game as a Tier-1 app. That's 99¢ in the United States.
mangaroo said: I remember you talking about a disc icon recently and honestly i think it is the only thing holding the menu back. too retro, im not sure what the icon represents, but perhaps some sort of cpu chip instead?
I don't know, I like the icon. I don't think it's too retro. When I want to backup something safely, I use a CD or DVD. If I used a CPU chip, it might look like an upgrade for BOT. If I use an iOS device as an icon, I might catch flak from Apple and it wouldn't really work for the Mac Desktop version of the game.
mangaroo said: also i like the HUD health bar character icon - but perhaps just a slightly a wider angle with the character pushed back a little to see his right shoulder blade to represent his tankiness as opposed to roman guardishness if you know what i mean.
The idea was to keep the health bar small. That means I don't have a lot of space to keep detail. The screenshots are retina display, so they look nice and sharp, but the game can run on older iOS devices too. That means the graphics have to scale down.

I'm planning to make a video after the game has been sent to Apple for review.
mangaroo said: did you have any trouble turning the tank shadow off over edges of the hill or was it always enough of a border...?
TANK is bigger than his shadow, so it's a good way to avoid the problem with shadows overlapping with edges.
thanks for getting back to me with all those points, 0.99cents is a great starting price no doubt, i believe ur game following a few weeeks would still attract the gamers it would have attracted at 1.99 as well. slightly interested newbies get drawn in with the 0.99 cents sale(s).
I see what u mean about the upgrade for BOT - backup..cd works well, i like the background of the icon. if you hear some others mentioning it dont fret theres like a million cd icons on google search for inspiration!
about the hud health bar icon, i understand its no big deal but imo would represent the character more - but it looks good as is, nice positioning and symmetrical/colours etc.
You know the lasers = why not have 1 pixel on the edge of the laser beam semi-blurred so it isn't as sharp an edge? pretty minor points, Im looking forward to the video following review

The laser is animated. It pulsates, which can't be seen in a single screenshot.

Hehe but seriously it sound good I'm looking forward to seeing it at last!

Now I feel a sense of urgency to finish my game.
