Now I wonder. with each new feature they finally add to pro. GC, InAPP purchase, etc etc. are they going to increase the yearly fee?

Maybe eventually, for now though I think they'll stick at $500. Pro licenses are their only revenue stream and they must get more on board to make some money.

Im also thinking that maybe I should get on board the 500$ pro. So that when things change. People who already have it. Might get somekind of discount, when changes do take place.

    Same here, except I'm 12.

There is no expectation to get pro and no need if you just want to make games. However, for the monetizing and promotional things then that's what a pro license is for. What you get for free is only possible because of those people who pay for pro licenses.

It would be a sure fire way to improve GameSalads reputation if free members could only publish local Mac apps and web publish. That way publishing to iOS devices would be something people would have to invest in and take development more carefully.

I don't mean to be an ass, but how many 12 or 13 year olds are able to go "pro" in anything? Do you really expect to make a living on this as a 12 year old? It's a big struggle for me and I'm 32 and have been working hard at this for 2 years and I don't feel like a "pro" even though I have the pro account.

I would recommend that you focus on having fun and learning the logic behind game mechanics. Then if you decide later in life that game development is something you want to pursue professionally you will have a solid foundation.

+1 just be a kid and have fun. why are you so worried about being "pro" I think if I was still in school I would make all my games free just because I could.

not an ass. haha. BUT I have to disagree with some of that. I mean, yes, you won't be a PRO most likely. but, in todays world, experience for kids now in computer programming is the same as for you. because back when you guys were in highschool Im sure it wasnt as common of a thing to learn computer programming(I could be wrong). and today, in middle school(Im in highschool now) we learn java. I mean, its a whole new story. and I have been using illustrator for about 3 years now. so for experience wise, I think any of us could be pro if we practice enough. as for age goes, most kids my age(not saying I dont do this) are just in it for a quick buck or quick fame. They here that app making is easy, and that you get lots of money. they see apps like doodle jump and say "I can make that no problem, Ima be rich". I do agree with you though that you need a solid foundation to pursue something professionally and actually have some success.

Thats not excuse. Work hard, get some apps on the market, and maybe you can get that money. I am young too, but age is no excuse. There are many young adults making LOTS of money from starting their own business, or inventing something, anything really. The only thing that age limits you from is a bank account with your name, alcohol, and driving(if you arent 16). so its all how you play your cards.

Scitunes, I didn't mean to sound like an ass if I did. Your one of my favs on here.

You're not Pro until you've earned enough money on the free version to get pro:P
So, you want to make money on game, but not willing to spend money on the necessary tools? I've spent over 1500$ on graphics and music programs. Businesses is is investment, then hopefully profits. If you're used to get everything for free, then why not whine to your parents, again?

absolutely no offense taken. I may be a bit jaded after working all day long with over 100 13 year olds. All I know is that not a single one of my 8th grade students could be pro at anything. Unless you count the kid that wore a purple dinosaur costume backwards to school today so that the tale looked like a giant purple penis. He's ready to be a professional jack-ass!

I really hope GameCenter is pro for a few reasons, many of which have already been mentioned.

touche. haha. there are kids that would do that. there are kids in my spanish class, that when the substitute asks their names (when they are in trouble) they lie and say another name. Clever but wrong. It all depends on the person I guess.

I meant in a devious way lol. Like to not get in trouble. As i said, its wrong and I would NEVER do it. lol. even if I wanted to, I wouldn't have the guts. I hate kids that slack and get away with it. but thats beside the point

I think it should be a pro feature. How else is GameSalad going to keep the lights on? The pro features are lacking...

    • No splash screen (Nice)
    • iAds (Next to useless)
    • OpenURL (It has some uses)

If it is going to be a pro feature, they should let people know that BEFORE the feature is launched.

As far a I know, Pro still have GS splash, am I wrong? I will buy Pro today is it removes the GS splash.

I guess you'll be coughing up $500 then - pro users can use their own splash screen in place of the Gamesalad one!

    Good hunting!

    QS :D

Wow! when did that happen? last I looked only old Pros could do that. I will be happy to pay GS for such a great product, just so far iAds and URL were not killer features for me.

Here's the sticky from the CEO - which I know people can miss sometimes:

    http://gamesalad.com/forums/topic.php?id=20875

They also got some money. $6.1 million.

Though that only leaves 100k after they build a six million dollar man...

    QS ;)

Hopefully they choose to have gamecenter with limited functionality, like a basic 10 unit leaderboard and no achievements, for free users.
  • okimokiokimoki Member Posts: 159
Didnt read everything in this post but most people act like GameCenter is something they cant make a game without.. It doesnt matter if your 13 or 40.. you get GS for FREE!!!! make some good (GOOOOOOD!!!) games, put them to the appstore, earn 500 bucks and buy PRO.. then with PRO make even better games with GameCenter and stuff..
Geeeez, its not like you cant live without GameCenter! Sure, would be nice and games would be more competitive with other software, but it doesnt matter - sorry - if you make junk games GameCenter wont help you! So i suggest that everybody starts working on getting the best games they can out there, not just (sure there are exceptions..) those weekend projects..

Soon, you'll be able to go PRO..

Yep, then I think it'll be in-app purchases next that is causing people to make low selling games :P

It won't be the next iAds. Game Center is actually useful. I don't recall any reviews stating, "This app would be better with iAds."

Game Center definitely will help games, ok fair enough, not the core functionality of it, but people like leaderboards and achievements. If a game is addictive then people will want to carry on playing, that should be step 1, but you then need to reward the player to keep them coming back and people like and expect to do this globally. It wont help you make better games but it may help you to keep people interested in playing your game.

Having said all this, i hope GameCenter is pro only
